Okay, so I finally wrapped up the main story of *Ghost of Yōtei*, finished Atsu’s whole revenge arc, and now I’m thinking about what to do next. This game has a huge open world, and honestly, there’s a ton to do even *after* the credits roll – side quests, random encounters, just exploring. I could easily lose dozens of hours just wandering around Ezo, but what are the really cool things worth checking out once you’ve beaten the story?
Let’s explore everything you can do after finishing the main story, including the important Mythic Tales and Unfinished Business quests. You might even discover what happens to a character you remember from the previous game. Here are 15 things to check out – be aware that there are some minor spoilers ahead.
Finish All Side Activities
It’s generally best to finish side quests and clear enemy camps during your first time through the game, as they offer helpful rewards like materials, currency, and new skills. Even if you didn’t get everything on your first try, it’s still worth going back to complete places like Yōtei Six camps and Bamboo Strikes to boost your health and Spirit.
Merchant Requests
The Wolf Pack includes several merchants who sell upgrades, charms, and ammunition. Buying from them and advancing the story unlocks extra requests – either immediately or when they come to your camp. These requests can lead to powerful armor sets, including one that lets you deflect bullets while blocking, and the Rain of Arrows Charm, which is considered exceptionally strong for ranged characters.
Challenge Takezo the Unrivalled
Okay, so fighting all of Takezo’s followers can be seriously tricky during the main story – unless you *really* want to master dual blades. But even if you put it off until after the story is over, it’s still a great way to test your skills, especially the final fight with Takezo himself! If you manage to win, you finally unlock the special Spirit Attack for the dual blades, which is awesome.
Master All the Weapons and Unlock Their Spirit Attacks
It’s really worth learning how to use every weapon in the game. Finish all the tasks for each weapon master – things like eliminating Yōtei Six camps and completing Odachi training bounties – which will unlock a special Sensei Tale. Completing that tale unlocks the weapon’s Spirit Attack. Not only does this make the weapon more effective against its weaknesses, but each Spirit Attack also has a unique benefit – for example, Mountain Breaker can break the guard of all nearby enemies.
Unfinished Business
Once you finish the main story, you’ll have “Unfinished Business” to take care of. This means dealing with any remaining enemies from the Yōtei Six, like finishing their personal stories (Sensei Tales) and clearing out their camps. There are also optional activities, such as the Winter Farms in Teshio Ridge, which can unlock useful items like the kunai. If you’ve already explored thoroughly, Unfinished Business might finish quickly. Otherwise, it’s a helpful way to find anything you’ve missed in each area.
Complete All Bounties
Completing bounties in Ezo is a great way to earn Coin, and you also get cool rewards like hats and masks to personalize your character. Some bounties, such as Nameless Death, even connect to other optional activities like strongholds, letting you make extra progress while you complete them – on top of the rewards you get from the bounty itself!
Collect All the Charms
Unlike *Ghost of Tsushima*, *Yōtei* really emphasizes optimizing your character’s build – whether you prefer stealth, ranged attacks, or close combat. While the right armor and weapons are important, Charms are what truly make a build work. For example, a rapid-fire archer build needs the Rain of Arrows Charm, but other Charms like Mother’s Charm (for extra damage), Charm of Iron Focus (for longer concentration), and Charm of Archer’s Fortune (to maintain arrow supply) are equally vital. Basically, collect every Charm you can – you’ll be glad you did!
Complete All Wolf Dens
Wolf Dens are important because they let you unlock powerful new abilities tied to your wolf companion – things like automatic revival or continuing the fight even after a draw. Beyond the practical benefits, they also strengthen your connection with your wolf and offer exciting story moments. Even if you think you’ve finished the main story, exploring these dens is definitely worthwhile.
Investigate the Spider Lily General
If you decide to explore the Myth after finishing the main story, Atsu will find themselves near the Spider Lily General’s manor. However, you can actually discover it at any time during your playthrough, and it’s a worthwhile adventure purely for the gameplay – including challenges like platforming, mazes, and combat. Plus, you’ll earn a new armor set as a reward!
Find and Solve All Nine Tails Puzzle Boxes
You’ll find puzzle boxes while exploring, whether you’re taking down Nine Tails bases or visiting Kitsune locations. They’re simple to solve and offer good rewards like coins and crafting materials. Plus, they provide a fun, unique challenge that’s different from everything else in the game – a little something to fiddle with and earn some extra goodies.
Collect All Weapon Kits
In Ezo, you can find Weapon Kits all over the place! They change how your weapons look and you can earn them by finishing quests for weapon masters, completing Mythic Tales, or taking on bounties. A lot of them are hidden at the Pillars of the Fallen – some of which require a little bit of climbing to reach. Just remember, these are purely cosmetic items – they don’t change how you play – but they *do* look fantastic, which is pretty important when you’re an onryo!
Collect All the Dyes
The area also boasts numerous dye workshops and artisans, offering fabrics in every color imaginable, from stark white to vibrant red. While fashion drives much of the trade, you’ll also meet some fascinating people – particularly the merchant specializing in crimson dyes.
The Fate of Jin Sakai
Even though Jin Sakai isn’t physically present, it would have been strange not to see him acknowledged in some way. Be sure to complete the Storm Blade Mythic Tale on Oshima Coast – it also unlocks a strong new ability for Atsu. Beyond that, explore the world at your own pace, uncover the story of the Ghost of Tsushima, and perhaps even continue his work.
Miike Mode, Watanabe Mode, and Kurosawa Mode
Now that you’ve tried some or all of these features, it’s time to enjoy Ghost of Yōtei in a new way. Turn on Watanabe Mode for relaxing music as you explore Ezo, or choose Kurosawa Mode for a more dramatic, movie-like experience (though it’s best enjoyed during the main story). If you want more intense combat, Miike Mode is what you need – it adds more blood, gore, and mud, and brings the camera in closer for a visceral feel.
Lethal Difficulty
Unfortunately, *Ghost of Yotei* doesn’t have a New Game Plus option right now. The developers might add it later, but until then, you can try playing on Lethal difficulty or starting a new game in one of the three modes. While *Tsushima*’s Lethal difficulty was manageable, this one is truly challenging, particularly at the beginning when you don’t have all your equipment. It’s designed for players who really want to put their skills to the test.
