Since its release, Ghost of Yōtei has been selling very well, similar to its previous game, particularly in the US. It’s even reportedly sold more copies than Assassin’s Creed Shadows this year, specifically on PlayStation consoles.
Alinea Analytics reports that the game Yōtei sold 2.5 million copies in under two weeks, while Shadows reached 2.4 million sales in seven months. Shadows has now sold over 4.3 million copies in total, with the majority – 56% – being on PlayStation 5. Alinea Analytics notes that sales differences aren’t necessarily due to game quality alone; other factors are also at play.
Following the popularity of Ghost of Tsushima, Yōtei has attracted a larger existing PlayStation audience than Shadows. In fact, even in Japan, Yōtei has proven more popular – more than three times as many PS5 players have tried it compared to Ubisoft’s Shadows (only 1.6% of PS5 players in Japan have played Shadows).
Both games are still in development and moving forward. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will receive two more updates before it launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in December. Sucker Punch Productions is also creating a Legends mode for Yōtei, planned for release sometime in 2026. They aren’t currently planning downloadable content, but are asking players what features they’d like to see in the future.
