In 2025, Ghost of Yotei received high praise for its story mode. Now, in 2026, Sucker Punch Productions is expanding the popular open-world action game with the multiplayer mode they previously announced, Ghost of Yotei Legends. The release date was revealed during the February 2026 State of Play, and players won’t have to wait long to jump in.
On March 10th, players who own the PS5 game will receive the “Ghost of Yotei Legends” update as a free download. This update is included in version 1.5, though details about other changes in the patch are still unknown.
Ghost of Yotei Legends Has Many Classes and Bosses to Fight
In Legends, up to four players will battle demonic forms of the Yotei Six, the main villains of the game’s story. The trailer shows these villains partially transformed into the creatures they’re based on.
When the game launches, there will be three different ways to play. One mode, called Survival, challenges players to fight through increasingly difficult waves of enemies. This will take place on four unique maps, each offering special advantages called Blessings and disadvantages called Curses.
The game’s story mode lets you team up with a friend to complete twelve missions. After finishing each set of story missions, you’ll unlock Incursion – a large, four-player attack on a fortress controlled by one of the Yōtei Six, ending with a challenging boss fight against a monstrous version of them. In April, Sucker Punch will also add a Raid, allowing players to battle the Dragon and Lord Saito.
The game will feature four character classes – Samurai, Archer, Mercenary, and Shinobi – which should feel familiar to players of Ghost of Tsushima‘s multiplayer mode. Each class starts with a katana and a ranged weapon, but focuses on a different weapon type from the original game. Samurais will have the widest variety of weapon options, including the odachi. Archers get the spear and an extra ranged weapon, while Mercenaries wield dual katanas and have abilities focused on support and versatility. Finally, Shinobis appropriately specialize in the kusarigama and stealth techniques.
The game will feature rewards, a photo mode, and a lobby where players can prepare for matches. In the lobby, you can practice archery and fighting, or enjoy mini-games like bamboo cutting and Zeni Hajiki – a coin-flipping game seen in the story.
