
So, I’m super hyped for Ghost of Yōtei coming out on October 2nd, and Sony and Sucker Punch just dropped some info about the photo mode! Basically, it’s going to be a lot like the one in Ghost of Tsushima, which is awesome. They’re giving us tons of freedom to capture whatever moments we want, and a whole bunch of settings to play around with to get the perfect shot. I can’t wait to start taking screenshots!
The photo mode in *Ghost of Yōtei* lets you save up to 16 different camera positions, which you can then string together to create smooth, animated tracking shots. You can also adjust the camera’s zoom level from a wide 12mm to a powerful 300mm. Players have full control over depth of field, turning it off completely or setting it anywhere from f/1.2 (shallow) to f/63 (deep), and can adjust the focus distance from just 0.1 meters to a full 200 meters.
The game offers a wide range of color grading options, letting you leave scenes as they are or apply styles like black and white, vibrant red (‘Samurai Red’), or more subtle looks like ‘Autumn’ and ‘Smoke’. You can adjust how strong each color filter is. Beyond color, you can also fine-tune the image with settings for exposure (ranging from -0.5 to 5.0) and black & white contrast (from 1.0 to 3.0).
The photo mode now offers a range of particles – like birds, flower petals, and leaves – to help players create stunning, cinematic images. You can customize these effects by adjusting their amount, and how the wind affects them. Combine these particle options with settings for clouds, time of day, and weather to create endless unique scenes.
Atsu’s appearance can be customized for each photo. You can adjust how dirty or clean she looks – choosing between muddy, bloody, or pristine – and even make her completely invisible. Her facial expressions are also changeable, and you can remove her helmet and mask to showcase them better. Plus, you can adjust the shine on her sword to create either realistic or more artistic images.
The PlayStation Blog post not only showcased the game’s features, but also offered some useful advice for new players. For example, you can instantly access photo mode by pressing the right direction on the D-pad, and you can choose between automatic and manual focus to get the best possible pictures.
Art director Joanna Wang recently discussed the visuals in *Ghost of Yōtei*, explaining the significance of the color yellow within the game’s story and themes. She also described how the move to PS5 allowed Sucker Punch Productions to create a much more visually impressive experience compared to *Ghost of Tsushima*.
