A new Ghost of Yotei update has just been released, and it’s the first one since the game launched on PS5 two days ago. While the game did receive a large day-one patch, this update is a separate download. The initial patch focused on major improvements and fixes, but this new Ghost of Yotei update is smaller in scope, though Sucker Punch Productions still considered it important enough to release quickly instead of waiting for a bigger update later. Releasing updates takes time and resources after launch, and developers generally prefer to avoid forcing players to download them unnecessarily.
We don’t have a complete list of changes for the new Ghost of Yotei Update 1.008, but we can confirm it addresses bugs introduced in the last game update. This patch includes improvements to stability and fixes several gameplay problems. The limited details might be because it’s the weekend and this update seemed to be released quickly as an emergency fix. It’s also possible that the individual changes were minor and didn’t require detailed explanation. We’re currently waiting for more information from Sucker Punch Productions or PlayStation, and we’ll update this article as soon as we have it.
Not Much to Fix
Similar to other major Sony exclusive titles, Ghost of Yotei runs remarkably smoothly, with few bugs or performance problems. The game is very well optimized, meaning it doesn’t require extensive updates after release. While new features and gameplay enhancements would be welcome, those additions would take significant time to develop. As highlighted in our review, this game essentially offers more of the Ghost of Tsushima experience, but with noticeable refinements and improvements. Therefore, it’s not surprising that Sucker Punch Productions and Sony have enjoyed a successful launch.
Looking ahead, players of the new PS5 game can anticipate a Legends co-op mode arriving in 2026. However, the game’s future plans beyond that are uncertain, and it’s unclear how much additional content will be added. PlayStation often introduces features like Photo Mode and New Game+ after a game launches. While Photo Mode is already available, New Game+ isn’t yet. It’s likely that New Game+ will also be included in updates sometime in 2026.
