So, Sucker Punch just released their new game, *Ghost of Yōtei*, and I’ve been totally hooked! I was reading an interview with the co-director and lead writer, and they were talking about what’s next for the main character, Atsu. Basically, Game Informer asked if her story is finished, or if they’re planning more content like they did with *Ghost of Tsushima* and the *Iki Island* expansion. I’m really hoping for more, honestly!
Ryan sees the conclusion of *Ghost of Yōtei* as just one part of Atsu’s larger story. While she achieved her initial goal of revenge, he feels there’s much more to her life and anticipates a challenging future for her.
Ryan explained that while this part of her story is over, she has a bright future ahead. She’s rediscovering how to live, now raising her niece and stepping into a motherly role without her brother. She’s moved past seeking revenge, though she’s still recovering and learning to build a life focused on what comes next. She’s made significant progress and can finally envision a future that isn’t about getting even.
But what does the future hold? Will things simply get easier? I don’t think so, and that’s what makes Atsu’s story so compelling and easy to connect with.
Whether or not *Ghost of Yōtei* will receive additional story content after release depends on how well the game is received by players. The developers will be looking to see if there’s interest in learning more about the character Atsu, similar to how players wanted to know more about Jin Sakai after finishing *Ghost of Tsushima*. Ultimately, player demand will determine if any DLC or expansions are made.
Connell explained that they’ve reached a crucial stage in the project: releasing it to the public and gathering feedback. They want to see what aspects of Atsu resonate with audiences – what people enjoy and what they’d like to learn more about. This feedback is vital for making key decisions, much like it was with *Tsushima*. They’re focusing on understanding what questions people have – for example, about character relationships or backstories – to help develop the characters further.
It’s a unique chance to really hear what millions of players connected with in the story, and what didn’t quite work or felt incomplete. That’s the ideal place to be as creators. We’re grateful for the positive response to Atsu, and like with Jin, if we see ways to make the character or story better, add new ideas, or improve clarity – as long as it benefits Sucker Punch as a whole – we’ll definitely consider it.
