Jennifer Runyon, the actress known for her roles in Ghostbusters and Charles in Charge, has died. Her representatives told NBC News she passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, after a long illness, and was surrounded by family. She was 65 years old.
In the original 1984 film Ghostbusters, Runyon had a small but memorable role as the female student in the scene where Bill Murray’s character, Peter Venkman, tests people for psychic abilities. Venkman shows students a card and asks them to guess its shape without looking, giving them a shock for each wrong answer. Interestingly, Venkman never shocks Runyon’s character, even though she guesses every card incorrectly – while the other student actually does pretty well! This funny scene made an impression, and Runyon later appeared in several Ghostbusters documentaries because of her part.
Following her role in Ghostbusters, Runyon became well-known for playing Gwendolyn Pierce in the first season of the popular sitcom Charles in Charge. She was Scott Baio’s character’s girlfriend and appeared throughout the entire first season, with a final guest appearance in Season 2. Runyon continued to appear on other well-known 1980s television shows, including Magnum, P.I., Who’s the Boss?, Quantum Leap, and Murder, She Wrote.
Fans of the genre might remember Runyon from her work in Roger Corman’s sci-fi horror film Carnosaur, which came out after the success of Jurassic Park. She also appeared in several holiday-themed slasher movies, like To All a Goodnight and Silent Night, Bloody Night 2: Revival.
Actress Erin Murphy, famous for her role on Bewitched, shared news of Jennifer Runyon Corman’s passing on social media. Murphy wrote that Runyon Corman died after a short fight with cancer, describing her as a wonderful friend she felt instantly connected to. She expressed her sadness and sent condolences to Runyon Corman’s family and children.
