A new animated Ghostbusters series is heading to Netflix next year! Netflix recently revealed the first details and title of the show. This project is the latest collaboration between Netflix and Flying Bark Productions, the animation studio behind Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 (which has been renewed for another season). Now, it’s Ghostbusters’ turn for an animated revival.
I just learned the official name of the new animated Ghostbusters series on Netflix – it’s called Ghostbusters: Night Shift! They’ve also confirmed it will be released next year. To get us excited, Netflix shared a first look at the series, including a new logo. It definitely gives off a fun and energetic vibe, and if their other animated series, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, is anything to go by, we’re in for a treat. You can see the logo below!
Netflix Debuts First Look at New Ghostbusters Series
A new animated Ghostbusters series, Ghostbusters: Night Shift, is coming to Netflix in 2027. While a specific release date hasn’t been set yet, the show is being produced by Sony Pictures Animation and Flying Bark Productions. Ben Hibon, Elliott Kalan, Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan, and Amie Karp from Ghost Corps, Inc. are executive producers, and original Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd is also involved, which is sure to add to the excitement!
Netflix will be showcasing Ghostbusters: Night Shift at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival starting June 12th. The first logo released for the new animated series suggests it will be created using computer-generated imagery (CGI), a style similar to Flying Bark Productions’ work on Stranger Things: Tales From ’85. While Flying Bark has experience with both CGI and traditional 2D animation, the logo points towards a CGI approach for Ghostbusters: Night Shift.
What’s Next for Ghostbusters?
A new animated Ghostbusters series is coming to Netflix, and an animated movie is also in development. It’s been a while since any news about the movie surfaced, so the series will be the first new Ghostbusters project released in a long time. Currently, there are no plans to continue the live-action films after the release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
The world of Ghostbusters lends itself well to animation, as seen with the popular The Real Ghostbusters cartoon from the 1980s. This new animated series on Netflix has the potential to be just as successful if it connects with audiences.
