Be warned: this contains spoilers for the recent Halloween episode of Ghosts Season 5, titled “Halloween 5: The Mummy.” You can watch it now if you have a Paramount+ subscription.
The latest Halloween special from Ghosts Season 5 is another standout episode, and a great addition to the 2025 TV lineup. I recently finished watching the whole series to get ready for the new season, and this year’s Halloween episode, “Halloween 5: The Mummy,” was the first one I’ve watched around the actual holiday in years. It was a sweet reminder of why Nigel and Isaac were such a lovely couple, and it even hinted at a possible rekindling of feelings between Hetty and Trevor. Plus, the episode reinforced my idea about why so many of the ghosts who died at Woodstone haven’t moved on.
The Problem With People Dying On Ghosts
After five seasons of Ghosts, it’s become noticeable that none of the main characters – not even most of the ghosts in the basement – ever have any romantic or sexual relationships, despite their personal growth. I understand this is likely because the actors are series regulars and the show doesn’t want to lose them, and I appreciate that.
I’m willing to accept the explanation that ghosts haven’t earned enough ‘goodness’ to move on, even though it felt strange when Flower disappeared briefly in Season 3 – and she’s not even one of my favorite characters. It’s harder to ignore the fact that so many people who die on the property end up becoming ghosts. The show initially suggests it’s unusual for spirits to linger, but it happens frequently in Woodstone.
My Theory For Why People Come Back As Ghosts
I believe the Woodstone property holds a mystical energy that prevents certain spirits from moving on, likely connected to the deaths of Thor, Sass, Isaac, or Hetty. It seems the number of returning spirits increased in the 20th century, with Alberta, Flower, Pete, and Trevor all passing away either during or shortly after the 1900s. Trevor even lived a short time into the 21st century.
