Giant Anime Franchise Confirms New Live-Action Adaptation

Currently, the live-action anime adaptation getting the most buzz is One Piece. With the Straw Hats having just released a second season and a third on the way on Netflix, they aren’t the only anime characters coming to life. Another popular series isn’t stopping at just one movie or TV season; it’s confirmed a fifth film is in production and has released a first look at the return of the Qin Nation.

The manga Kingdom began in 2006 and is still being written by Yasuhisa Hara. In 2019, it was adapted into a live-action film in Japan, followed by three sequels. These films – Kingdom 2: Far And Away, Kingdom 3: The Flame of Destiny, and Kingdom 4: Return of the Great General – closely follow the story of the manga. This summer, a fifth film, Kingdom: Soulful Battle, will be released in Japan on July 17th, and a new trailer is now available.

Kingdom’s Big Comeback

The anime and now live-action series Kingdom is based on the history of ancient China, specifically the end of the Zhou dynasty. It depicts a time of warring states and political conflict, reimagining historical events with an anime style. This fifth film is a celebration of the franchise’s 20th anniversary, and the official website has given fans a sneak peek at what’s coming in Soulful Battle.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the popular manga, and a new movie is set to continue its epic story. “Kingdom: Soulful Battle,” the fifth film in the series, portrays a critical moment based on one of the most beloved arcs from the original manga – the Coalition Army Arc. This installment features the biggest battle yet, with the fate of Qin and the Six Nations hanging in the balance. Get ready for a thrilling showdown this summer that will determine the future of the Qin nation!

I’m a huge fan of Kingdom, and while it hasn’t quite reached the mainstream popularity of series like One Piece or Jujutsu Kaisen here in North America, it’s absolutely massive in Japan! We’re talking over 120 million copies sold – it consistently ranks among the best-selling manga every year. And the good news keeps coming – Studio Signpost is already working on a seventh season of the anime! We don’t have a release date yet, but knowing there’s more Kingdom on the way is fantastic.

How does the live-action adaptation of Kingdom stack up against shows like One Piece? Share your thoughts in the comments and join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum!
