Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid’s Secret Half-Sister Details Their Bond

Aydan Nix is getting real about what it’s like being a Hadid.

Almost seven months after Gigi and Bella Hadid revealed that their father, Mohamed Hadid, had another daughter after his divorce from their mother, Yolanda Hadid, Aydan – whose mother is Terri Hatfield Dull – spoke about her relationship with her half-sisters.

In an essay for The Cut published on December 30th, the 23-year-old shared that her sisters and the rest of her family have always been incredibly supportive and giving. She explained they went out of their way to make her feel welcome and have been consistently kind to her.

After learning who her biological father was, Aydan became deeply interested in her family history. She received support from her half-siblings: Marielle Hadid, Alana Hadid, and Anwar Hadid, as well as from Gigi and Bella Hadid, who are the children of her father’s first wife, Mary Butler.

Alana shared helpful information with me and motivated me to support Palestinian liberation. I also watched Anwar’s documentary, Walled Off, and Gigi introduced me to Palestinian cuisine, even teaching me the names of the dishes.

 

As a longtime observer, it was clear she was really trying to find where she fit in with a family she’d only recently discovered. I watched her carefully, going through Bella’s things and sharing laughs with Marielle at the dinner table. But you could sense this weight on her – a feeling like she needed to quickly catch up on years of missed moments and make everything right.

Aydan grew up in Florida with a different family, and sadly, her father passed away when she was a teenager.

Aydan discovered in 2023, through genetic testing, that the sister she’d always known wasn’t biologically related to her. While this didn’t change their relationship, it made her rethink her understanding of family, she wrote.

And as her concept of family widened, so did job opportunities as a freelance wardrobe stylist. 

One of the highlights of my career was definitely closing the Desigual fashion show in Barcelona! It was there I met Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, someone I’d been following and admiring for ages – not just her incredible styling work, but also her strong principles. I was thrilled to start assisting her whenever she needed an extra hand, especially during busy periods.

Still, Aydan said her life “didn’t change much” since her paternity reveal in May.

She lives in a small apartment in the East Village and is currently relying on her mother for financial support. She gets to work by subway or bus, and when the Met Gala happens, she’ll be working tirelessly, hauling heavy trunks – sometimes weighing 70 pounds – up and down stairs or through the Carlyle Hotel’s loading dock.

Aydan shared that he’s focusing on living life on his own terms and remembering that, even with public attention, his life is still his own.

David Foster is a successful musician, composer, and producer, but to his six children, he’s simply Dad. The Grammy winner, who recently welcomed his youngest child, Rennie, at age 71, told People magazine in 2022 that being a father is wonderful. He admitted it’s a cliché, but he genuinely feels he has more time to enjoy it, and loves all his children equally.

David is married to Katharine McPhee, making this his fifth marriage. In his 2019 documentary, David Foster: Off the Record, he reflected on his past relationships, describing himself as someone who tended to move on quickly. He explained that he was often drawn to something new when things weren’t working, but he stated that he is very happy with Katharine.

David Foster comes from a large family – he has six sisters. One of them, Jaymes Foster, had a son named Parker with Clay Aiken in 2008. Clay has mentioned that Parker used to sing constantly, but is now pursuing a different career path. However, if Parker ever decides to get into music, he has plenty of experienced family members to offer advice. Clay notes that Parker has music and American Idol in his blood, with his uncle being the well-known producer David Foster, and Katharine McPhee as his aunt.

 

David’s oldest child, Allison Jones, was born when he was 20 years old and given up for adoption. They later reconnected when she was an adult. Today, Allison works as Director for The David Foster Foundation. She has an MBA from McMaster University and lives in Edmonton, Alberta, with her husband, Brent, and their two children.

David was first married to B.J. Cook, a fellow musician he collaborated with in the bands The Hawks and Skylark. They married in 1972, and he became stepfather to B.J.’s daughter, Tamre Winger. A year later, they had a daughter together, Amy S. Foster. The couple divorced in 1981, but reunited in 2023 when they were both honored with a star on the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame StarWalk.

Amy S. Foster, like both of her parents, is a musician – the ‘S’ in her name stands for her family’s band, Skylark. She’s a successful songwriter, having penned songs for major artists such as Michael Bublé, Rod Stewart, and Destiny’s Child.

Although growing up in Toronto, away from her father David, was difficult, Amy has said they’ve developed a strong connection. In a 2020 interview with People magazine, she praised her father’s growth, saying he’s open to change and constantly evolving, which she admires.

Amy also defended her father against accusations of abandoning his older children, stating that there was absolutely no truth to the claims.

Beyond songwriting, Amy is an author and runs her own yarn company. She is a mother of three: Eva and Mikaela from her previous marriage to Simon Gillies, and Vaughn, who she shares with her husband, Matthew Freeman.

David married Rebecca Dyer in 1982, and together they had three daughters: Sara Foster, Erin Foster, and Jordan Foster. The daughters have often spoken about their close relationship with their mother. In a 2021 birthday post, Erin wrote about how she didn’t fully appreciate her mother’s guidance when she was younger, often dismissing her advice. However, she now realizes how much she needs her mother as she gets older. Rebecca and David divorced in 1986, and David later married Linda Thompson.

Born in 1981, Sara is the oldest of David and Rebecca’s two daughters. She’s known for her close relationship with her sister, Erin, and the two have collaborated on several projects. These include co-starring in the TV show Barely Famous (2015-2016), co-hosting The World’s First Podcast, and launching both the Favorite Daughter clothing line and the Oversubscribed Ventures investment firm. Sara also helped produce Erin’s Netflix movie, Nobody Wants This.

Earlier in her career, Sara appeared on the show 90210 and in films like D.E.B.S., Demoted, and The Big Bounce.

Sara and tennis player Tommy Haas are parents to two daughters, Valentina and Josephine. While Sara announced their separation in November 2024, Erin has shared that Tommy remains an important part of their family.

Erin shared on the Jeff Lewis Live show that she thinks Tommy is a wonderful person and a fantastic father. She mentioned he was currently having dinner with her husband and another brother-in-law, Tom, and considers him part of the family for good.

 

Born 18 months after her sister Sara in 1982, Erin is a creative entrepreneur and actress. She’s the creator of Nobody Wants This and co-founder of Favorite Daughter, The World’s First Podcast, and Oversubscribed Ventures, all alongside Sara. She also has acting credits in Daddy Issues, Circle, and Tell Me You Love Me. In May 2024, Erin and her husband, Simon Tikhman, welcomed their daughter, Noa Mimi Tikhman.

Born in 1985, Jordan is part of the family business, working as Style Director for Favorite Daughter. She’s a successful stylist, having worked with celebrities like Ashley Graham, Aly Raisman, and Lily Aldridge. She and her husband, Tom Woodger, are parents to their children, Otto and Juni.

As a bit of a lifestyle observer, I’ve always been fascinated by complex relationships, and my own story is no exception! Looking back, I’ve had quite the journey. In the 70s, I actually dated Elvis Presley – can you imagine?! Then, in 1981, I married Caitlyn Jenner. We had two sons, Brandon and Brody, during our marriage, and she was already a mom to Burt and Cassandra from a previous relationship. Caitlyn later found love with Kris Jenner, becoming a stepparent to Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, and Rob Kardashian, and they went on to have Kendall and Kylie together.

After my divorce from Caitlyn in 1985, I reconnected with David, and things quickly evolved. He confessed his feelings and ended things with his then-partner, and we eventually married in 1991. It wasn’t a perfect beginning, and I’ve done a lot of self-reflection, but I’ve come to peace with how things unfolded. We even had a creative partnership, co-writing Whitney Houston’s “I Have Nothing” for The Bodyguard! Though our marriage ultimately ended in 2005, I’m grateful for the experiences and lessons learned along the way. It’s all part of what makes life, well, life!

Brandon is the oldest son of Linda and Caitlyn, and David became his stepfather when he was young. Brandon remembers David as a consistent presence during his childhood, though also very focused on his career and often busy.

In 2005, Brandon, Brody, Linda, and David all appeared on the reality TV show The Princes of Malibu, alongside Spencer Pratt, Brody’s co-star from The Hills.

Although Linda and David divorced in 2005, they seem to have maintained a positive relationship. David supported Brandon’s music career, attending his 2016 record release party and praising his 2024 song, “The Feels,” on Instagram.

Brandon is married to Cayley Jenner and they have twins, Bo and Sam, as well as a daughter, Joan. He also has a daughter, Eva, from a previous marriage to Leah James.

Brody is Linda Thompson’s youngest son with Caitlyn Jenner, and you may recognize him from television. He’s been on several reality shows, including The Princes of Malibu, The Hills, the revival The Hills: New Beginnings, and Bromance. He’s also made appearances on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

Like his brother Brandon, Brody still seems to have a good relationship with David Foster. When Brody shared a video of his daughter, Honey, with fiancée Tia Blanco in July 2024, David commented on how adorable she was.

Sara and Erin have talked about what it was like watching David act as a stepfather to Brody and Brandon.

Sara shared on the Sibling Revelry podcast with Kate and Oliver Hudson that their father was more focused on raising Brandon and Brody than on them. David, their father, has acknowledged that his relationship with Sara, Erin, and Jordan changed over time. He told People magazine in 2020 that he regrets missing out on raising them, partly due to distance and his demanding work schedule, but he did his best under the circumstances. Erin added that after open conversations, they’ve reached a point of forgiveness and now view themselves as a typical family, despite past conflicts.

It seems Yolanda and David Hadid’s relationship began with a little help from Yolanda’s ex-husband, Mohamed Hadid, who introduced them. He later said he considered David a great stepfather to his daughters, Gigi, Bella, and Anwar.

Yolanda and David married in 2011 and shared their life together on Bravo TV, but divorced after four years, finalizing the split in 2017.

Yolanda has hinted that her struggle with Lyme disease put a strain on their marriage, writing in her book that she felt David grew frustrated with her recovery process. However, David has disputed this, stating he supported her as much as he could while she dealt with Lyme disease. Despite this, he’s maintained that her illness wasn’t the reason for their divorce, and he plans to keep the real reason private.

While married to Yolanda, David helped raise her daughters Gigi, Bella, and Anwar. Interestingly, Gigi still seems to have a relationship with David’s daughter, Erin.

The creator of the show Nobody Wants This recently shared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen that Gigi Hadid had just started watching it. They also revealed that on the show, the children of divorcing parents remain friends, while the parents themselves go their separate ways. Regarding whether Erin and Yolanda are still close, the creator said they aren’t as much as the children are, due to the parents’ divorce.

Beyond her successful modeling career, Gigi Hadid is the founder of the cashmere brand Guest in Residence. She is a mother to her daughter, Khai, with her ex-partner Zayn Malik of One Direction, and is currently in a relationship with Bradley Cooper.

David has maintained friendly relationships with Gigi and Bella Hadid even after his divorce from their mother, Yolanda. For example, he publicly supported them at a fashion show in 2016, sharing a photo with the caption “Step-Love” and praising their performance. He and Bella also shared a hug at the 2018 Met Gala, which was the first red carpet appearance for David and his wife, Katharine. Beyond modeling, Bella manages her own businesses, including the non-alcoholic drink company Kin Euphorics and the fragrance brand Orebella. She is currently dating Adan Banuelos.

Anwar Hadid is the younger brother of models Gigi and Bella, and he’s quickly become successful in the modeling world himself. He’s also a musician, playing with the band Oswald, and co-founded the jewelry brand Martyre. Anwar dated singer Dua Lipa for two years, but they broke up in 2021. In 2023, rumors began circulating that he was dating Sophia Piccirilli.

Katharine McPhee and David Foster began their relationship as friends. They first met in 2006 when Katharine was a contestant on American Idol and David was a mentor on the show. Years later, after both had gone through divorces – Katharine from Nick Cokas and David from Yolanda – rumors of a romance began to surface. At first, they didn’t confirm the speculation, but in 2018, the SMASH! actress and the musician announced their engagement.

They married in London in 2019 and welcomed their son, Rennie, in 2021. Despite a 34-year age difference, they aren’t worried about what others think.

“I understand the initial judgment, but things aren’t always what they seem,” Katharine shared in a 2023 podcast interview. “I’m in love with our love story, and that’s all that matters.”

David and Katharine welcomed their son, Rennie, in February 2021, and he seems to have inherited their musical talent – he’s already showing promise as a drummer! David shared a video of 2-year-old Rennie playing the drums with the caption, “Progress… time for lessons, I think.”

While Rennie often joins his parents on tour, Katharine especially loves the simple, everyday moments at home. In a 2023 interview, she told TopMob News, “I just love everyday mundane things like picking up your kid from school. To me, that is so fun because he says, ‘You’re back! You’re back!’ He’s so happy that I’m there, and that’s not gonna be forever that I get to do that.”
