The author of the popular manga series Gintama, Hideaki Sorachi, has a new anime coming to Netflix in April. A recent trailer and poster revealed the release date. Sorachi is a well-known creator who gained fame through Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. Gintama was especially popular for its comedic take on the action genre, but it wasn’t Sorachi’s first work published in the magazine.
Sorachi originally created Dandelion as a single, standalone story. However, it wasn’t published until after the first volume of Gintama came out in 2002. Now, Shueisha is revisiting this early work with a new miniseries, adding extra content and hinting at a possible anime adaptation. A trailer and poster for the new Dandelion series were revealed at AnimeJapan 2026, and the series will be available on Netflix in April.
Dandelion Confirms Netflix Release Date With New Trailer
I’m so excited for Dandelion! It’s hitting Netflix globally on April 16th with seven episodes, and it sounds like it’s going to be more than just a straight adaptation of Hideaki Sorachi’s original story – they’re adding a ton of new stuff, which is awesome. Daisuke Mataga is directing at NAZ, with Yosuke Suzuki writing the scripts, Ai Asari doing the character designs, and Yuki Hayashi composing the music – a seriously talented team! We also got a peek at more of the voice cast, and it’s looking fantastic!
The anime Dandelion has announced more cast members, joining previously announced stars Chikahiro Kobayashi and Megumi Han. Notably, the main three voice actors from Gintama – Mamoru Miyano, Kazuhiko Inoue, and Kensho Ono – will be featured. Other new additions include Yuki Ono, Tomokazu Sugita, Shinichiro Miki, Fumihiko Tachiki, Susumu Chiba, Satoshi Hino, and several more talented voice actors.
What Is Dandelion About?

Hideaki Sorachi’s initial Dandelion story centered around Tetsuo Tanba and Misaki Kurogane, who assisted lost spirits in finding peace and moving on to the afterlife as part of the “Japan Angel Federation Send Off Department.” The upcoming anime appears to be sticking closely to this original plot. However, fans are particularly interested in seeing how the story will be developed and expanded to fill the seven episodes. Sorachi himself playfully acknowledged this challenge to his fans.
When Netflix announced its adaptation of his early work, Dandelion, Sorachi admitted he typically avoids revisiting his debut because he finds it embarrassing. He jokingly noted Netflix has ‘no delicacy’ in bringing it back, but added that he’s glad for the chance to reconnect with those characters after twenty years.
