It looks like Zosia Mamet may be sharing why she walked away from her role on Mad Men.
As a devoted admirer looking back, I’d like to share some insights about my decision to abruptly leave a highly-acclaimed TV series for two seasons during my teenage years. Although there has been much speculation, especially regarding my age when I portrayed Joyce Ramsay in the AMC drama, this particular exit was not directly linked to that role or filming experience.
For Zosia, who was featured on the TV series Mad Men for multiple episodes in seasons four and five (aired from 2010 to 2012), her choice to leave the unidentified show was ultimately due to an unfavorable encounter she had with the show’s head writer.
In her recently published collection of essays titled “Does This Make Me Funny?“, the 37-year-old reminisced about an incident on set. During a blocking rehearsal, a newcomer appeared. The scene we were working on was straightforward and uncomplicated. My character was supposed to enter the office, announce having vital photos, take them out from the manila envelope I carried, and put them on the table.
As Zosia was making her way through her scene, unexpectedly, the unnamed showrunner intervened and took over the director’s duties, ultimately halting the action by calling for a cut.
Reflecting back on the moment, I found myself thinking among my colleagues, “Did someone inadvertently step out of line here?” Everything seemed to be running smoothly up until that point. Then, as if time stood still, the showrunner strode purposefully toward me. He paused for a moment before meeting my gaze and inquired rather bluntly, “What on earth are you up to?
Following a scolding over how she extracted the paper from the manila envelope, Zosia mentioned that the showrunner had her practice that particular scene repeatedly.
Initially, he merely spoke more loudly, but it gradually intensified into shouting, ultimately transforming into an outburst of loud screams, she explained. This behavior persisted for roughly thirty minutes, either because he was unable to continue or had lost interest.
Even though Zosia looks back at her time on set with a sense of the past, she has no regrets about it. She found herself in excellent company with both the cast and the crew, making the experience a positive one for her.
1. She continued by saying that the program surpassed expectations with both awards and viewership numbers. Indeed, it was deserving of such recognition. It’s simply magnificent TV, and I can hardly express my pride at being involved in its creation.
2. In addition, she remarked that the series shattered records for accolades and audience reception. Truly, it earned every bit of its success. What an outstanding example of television, and I am deeply grateful to have contributed to this masterpiece.
3. She concluded by stating that the program set new standards in both awards and ratings. Without a doubt, it was richly deserved. It’s nothing short of incredible television, and being associated with such greatness leaves me utterly thrilled.
Based on Zosia’s essays, some social media users suggested that she might have been alluding to the TV show “Mad Men,” particularly a scene in episode four of season five where her character handed over a manila envelope to Elizabeth Moss’s character, Peggy Olson.
The series, featuring actors such as Jon Hamm, January Jones, and Christina Hendricks, garnered an impressive collection of awards during its seven-season broadcast, earning a total of 16 Emmys and 5 Golden Globes.
In contrast, in the year 2017, the showrunner of Mad Men, Matthew Weiner, faced accusations from a former writer that he fostered a tense workplace atmosphere. (He has refuted these claims.)
In my perspective, although Zosia hasn’t openly discussed if her essay touches upon her experience on ‘Mad Men’, she did share in her writing that she experiences a sense of resolution regarding an incident that took place.
She mentioned that she encountered the showrunner at the Emmys a few years down the line. Our shows had been nominated for awards that evening. He acted as if he didn’t recognize me. They won all the awards that night, which I couldn’t help but feel a bit resentful about. But then again, he hasn’t produced anything significant since then.
Contact attempts were made by TopMob News to Matthew, Zosia, and AMC representatives for their comments; however, no responses have been received yet.

Zosia continued, “Nobody stopped it. Everyone just stared at their shoes while he screamed at me.”
After the rehearsal concluded, Zosia reportedly informed her agents right away that she had decided to resign.
She mentioned that she was expected to film four additional episodes that season, excluding the one she was already on. However, she made it clear that she didn’t care about their plans, whether the network decided to sue her or not, and flatly refused to return to the set for a single day more than necessary.
Zosia acknowledges that there are no regrets about the time she invested on the set, as she had a wonderful relationship with her fellow actors and team members.
1. “She remarked that the program continued to shatter records in both awards and viewership. Truly deserving, it’s a remarkable work of television that I am profoundly grateful to have contributed to.” (less formal)
2. “She stated that the program consistently set new milestones in terms of accolades and audience numbers. It certainly earned its success, as it stands as an exceptional example of TV productions, and I can’t help but feel deeply privileged to have been involved in it.” (more formal)
In response to Zosia’s essays, some social media users thought she might be alluding to the TV series “Mad Men.” More specifically, they pointed out a scene from episode four of season five where her character handed a manila envelope to Peggy Olson, portrayed by Elizabeth Moss.
The series, featuring actors such as Jon Hamm, January Jones, and Christina Hendricks, amassed an impressive collection of awards during its seven-season span, taking home a total of 16 Emmy Awards and five Golden Globes.
In 2017, it was alleged that Matthew Weiner, the showrunner of Mad Men, had fostered a tumultuous workplace atmosphere. However, he has since refuted these accusations.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’d like to share a thought based on Zosia’s recent essay. Although she hasn’t explicitly clarified whether her essay revolves around her time on ‘Mad Men’, what we do know is that she finds a certain level of resolution concerning an event, as she herself disclosed in her writing.
A few years after the Emmys, she mentioned she encountered the showrunner there. Their shows had been nominated. He acted as if he didn’t recognize her. That night, they won all the awards, and it left a bitter taste in her mouth. Yet, you know, he hasn’t produced anything significant since then.
As a devoted enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly awaiting updates about my favorite duo, Matthew and Zosia. I even reached out to their representatives, hoping to get some insight, but alas, no word has come yet. And just when I thought I couldn’t wait any longer, I attempted to contact AMC as well, hoping for a bit of news. However, the silence continues, leaving me hanging on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating any updates that might come my way. Here’s to hoping we hear back soon!

It’s likely that fans were anticipating Pedro Pascal’s character Joel Miller wouldn’t last much longer, given that his death in April 2025 mirrored a similar fate from The Last of Us Part II video game, which serves as the basis for season two of The Last of Us. Nevertheless, the shocking scene where his character was viciously impaled left viewers in a state of amazement.
Meanwhile, Pascal, who met an onscreen demise in both ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, handled his frequent death with humor. “I get killed a lot,” he quipped to ‘Entertainment Weekly’. “I enjoy dying,” he added.

In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, Krause expressed that Bobby Nash’s character was created to show sacrifice and dedication. He emphasized that just like first responders who put their lives at risk daily for others, this character’s narrative serves to honor these brave individuals.
The passing away of the firefighter, who was both troubled and adored, generated a lot of discussion, as showrunner Tim Minear admitted to Variety. However, after eight years, he stated that in order for future stories to have real significance, it became necessary for someone to be written out.
Summer just got a little less fun.
In the month of June, 2025, I made the decision to bid farewell to the Bravo series after having been a part of it for an incredible seven seasons.

As a dedicated follower, I can confirm that over a year ago, there were whispers about Kevin Costner abruptly leaving the successful Paramount drama after four-and-a-half seasons. However, it wasn’t until June 2024 that he officially announced his decision not to return for the series’ fifth and final season.
For 19 years, Ellen Pompeo portrayed Meredith Grey, and she made her final appearance as a regular cast member on ABC’s drama series in February 2023, concluding her tenure.
On The Drew Barrymore Show in December 2022, Pompeo expressed the need for change, saying “I need to shake things up a bit.” At 53 years old, she explained that her mind is like scrambled eggs and she craves novelty. Just as one can’t solve the same New York Times crossword puzzle every day, she yearns for something fresh.
In a recent update, it was disclosed that Henry Cavill, renowned for his role in Batman vs. Superman, is stepping down from the Netflix fantasy series after its third season. Liam Hemsworth is set to take over the character of Geralt starting from season four and may continue in this role beyond that point.
In October 2022, Cavill shared on Instagram that his experience as Geralt of Rivia has been a mix of monsters and exciting journeys. Sadly, he’ll be relinquishing the medallion and swords for Season 4.
As a devoted fan and admirer, I find myself stepping away from my cherished role as Detective Jay Halstead in 2022. Jesse Lee Soffer, the dedicated castmember I am, bid farewell to this beloved character that I had the privilege of embodying for an incredible 10 seasons.
In my own words, I’ve poured heart and soul into crafting this hour drama, week after week, and it’s been an unparalleled labor of love for every team member involved. As Detective Jay Halstead, this role has been more than just a job to me – it’s been a source of immense pride during my time on NBC’s procedural.
After five seasons, Damian Lewis departed Showtime’s Billions in Oct. 2021.
Last August, I learned with a heavy heart that my beloved star, Emily VanCamp, had bid farewell to the medical world on Fox’s show “The Resident,” hanging up her stethoscope for good.

She played this role for one season on The CW, but announced her departure from the series two days after the season finale aired in 2020. Subsequently, Javicia Leslie took over as Ryan Wilder, who will be the new character leading the Batcave in season two.
Later on in season two, Kate got a bit of a face swap and returned played by Wallis Day.
In 2020, America Ferrera opted to part ways with the show Superstore at the close of season five, which left Cloud 9 without a manager and the series without its leading character. Despite this, she made appearances in the first two episodes of season six due to the pandemic circumstances. With the announcement that season six would be the last, she came back for the series finale to provide the satisfying ending for characters Amy and Jonah (Ben Feldman)).
In the final episode of the fourth season of the Syfy series “The Magicians,” Jason Ralph’s character Quentin embarked on a mission to save Eliot, portrayed by Hale Appleman. However, during this quest, Quentin made the ultimate sacrifice. Although the show often includes deceased characters due to its title, Ralph’s character did not reappear in the fifth and last season.
Ahead of the final season, Arrow‘s Emily Bett Rickards announced her exit in a poem of sorts.
Felicity and I have been incredibly close, but starting from the eighth, we’ll unfortunately no longer be in touch with you,” she noted.
She did, however, return for a guest appearance in the show’s 2020 series finale.
In 2018, after prolonged contract talks, Lauren Cohan bid farewell to The Walking Dead. She briefly appeared in a few episodes of the ninth season, but her character Maggie Greene was absent following a six-year time leap. There were hopes that she would reappear in some form for season 10, and after her series Whiskey Cavalier on ABC ended prematurely, those wishes came true. Cohan made a significant comeback in the 16th episode of this season, which was broadcast in October 2020.
Shortly after Cohan and Andrew Lincoln said goodbye to the zombie drama, Gurira also announced her departure. She had joined the AMC series in season three as the katana-wielding Michonne and made her final appearance in a season 10 episode that was broadcasted in March 2020.

George Eads departed from the CBS reboot during season three in 2019, choosing to step away so he could devote more attention to his loved ones at home.
Fox’s TV series Lethal Weapon has experienced its fair share of cast departures. Actor Clayne Crawford was let go from the show following the second season, and in October 2018, Damon Wayans, his former co-star, announced his intention to leave the successful drama after completing the initial 13 episodes of the third season. He stated, “I’m planning to quit the show in December once we finish the initial 13… I’m a 58-year-old diabetic working 16-hour days… Murtaugh said, ‘I’m too old for this.’
In simpler terms, since the show ended after its third season, there wasn’t a requirement for producers to develop a new plan or continue working on it further.
Cameron Monaghan, who played a character that was put behind bars during Shameless’s ninth season as it concluded his nine-year run on the show, decided to delve into new opportunities off-screen. However, in an unexpected turn of events for television fans, he agreed to rejoin the series for season 10 and continued his involvement until the show aired its final season in December 2020.
After nine seasons as Fiona Gallagher, Emmy Rossum announced plans to leave Shameless in 2018.
In a statement, executive producer John Wells noted that Emmy Rossum will always be considered part of the Shameless family. Her exceptional portrayal of Fiona and her significant contributions behind the scenes as a leader on set and multiple episode director have played a crucial role in the show’s success.
