GKIDS and Regal Cinemas are joining forces to offer anime fans a special, interactive movie event. GKIDS has become well-known for bringing popular anime films to North America shortly after their release in Japan, and they’ve been securing some truly exciting titles in recent years. Their latest project is particularly unique: moviegoers will actually get to vote and decide how the film ends!
GKIDS and Regal Theaters are partnering to bring a special, fan-powered movie event to audiences across the U.S. and select international locations. HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle- Interactive Movie, launching February 27th, uses CtrlMovie technology to let viewers vote and directly influence how the story unfolds, making each screening a one-of-a-kind experience. You can see how it works in the video below.
How Does an Interactive Anime Movie Work?
The anime film *HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle originally premiered in Japan last year and featured a unique interactive element: audience members used in-theater polling to influence the story’s direction. While the main movie is 106 minutes long, there’s a total of 328 minutes of footage available, depending on audience choices. This was a first-of-its-kind release in Japan, and now fans in the US and at participating Regal Cinemas will have a chance to experience it, much to the delight of many.
Takanori Tsujimoto directs HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle- Interactive Movie, a unique film where conflicts are resolved through music battles between popular boy bands. The story centers on six groups competing in the Final Division Rap Battle, and viewers get to participate by voting on song choices and even influencing who wins. With 16 songs, 48 different story paths, and 7 possible endings, the film offers a highly interactive and unpredictable experience.
What Is HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle About?

GKIDS describes the new film, HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle- Interactive Movie, as a unique and immersive cinematic experience. The outcome of each rap battle is decided by the audience in real-time – viewers vote alongside each other to shape the story. This makes every screening of Japan’s first interactive anime film a one-of-a-kind event, and the film will be shown in Japanese with English subtitles.
Instead of fighting, people now resolve conflicts with rap battles using a special microphone called the Hypnosis Mic. This mic’s lyrics have a powerful effect on people’s emotions, making violence unnecessary. Six rap groups – Buster Bros!!!, MAD TRIGGER CREW, Fling Posse, Matenro, DOTSUITARE-HOMPO, and Bad Ass Temple – from across Japan are competing in the Final Division Rap Battle, organized by KOTONOHATOH. In this world where words are stronger than weapons, the upcoming rap battle will determine the fate of the nation.
