Following his success in popular movies such as Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone but You, and Twisters, Glen Powell is now turning his attention to television with the comedy series Chad Powers. This Hulu original, consisting of six episodes, centers on Russ Holliday, a confident former college football player portrayed by Powell. Russ jeopardizes his promising career with a major error. To chase his dreams, the resourceful athlete comes up with a plan: he disguises himself as the character Chad Powers hoping for another opportunity.
Inspired by the funny persona Eli Manning created for ESPN’s Eli’s Places, this comedy series will show Powell using a wig and makeup to become Chad Powers – a friendly, down-to-earth character who is very different from his snobby character, Holliday. After a lot of excitement and waiting from fans, the show is set to finally debut on September 30, 2025. The series will also include appearances from other well-known actors like Steve Zahn, Toby Huss, and Clayne Crawford. What Is Glen Powell’s ‘Chad Powers’ About?
Hulu
The sports comedy series Chad Powers is inspired by the persona of retired NFL quarterback Eli Manning, which he developed for his ESPN show Eli’s Places. In that project, the two-time Super Bowl winner went undercover and tried out for the Penn State University football team as a walk-on. The series stars Glen Powell as the charming lead, playing a character based on Manning. The Hulu original follows Russ Holliday, a once-prominent college quarterback whose life fell apart after a significant error ended his football career.
Eight years after a major mistake ended his football career, Russ comes up with a clever plan to get back in the game. He decides to disguise himself as the talented and friendly Chad Powers. In the trailer for the comedy series, Russ explains his scheme: “I am gonna do a Mrs. Doubtfire, but with football.“. He uses a wig and makeup to change his appearance and attempts to join the struggling South Georgia Catfish team, hoping to reignite his aspirations. Powell shared with ABC News about the show:
We built on that initial idea and really focused on the prosthetics – we’ve updated them, made improvements, and created a new model with a new Chad. We’re putting on quite a show! What sets this show apart is that we aimed for something both funny and emotionally touching, while still ensuring the football aspect was authentic and believable.
