Amazon Prime is quickly becoming known for its excellent video game adaptations. Following the success of Fallout, the streamer has several other big projects in development, including live-action series based on Tomb Raider (starring Sophie Turner), Mass Effect, and Life Is Strange. One of its most ambitious projects is a live-action God of War series, which will be based on the Norse mythology games. Recently, Ryan Hurst was cast as Kratos, and the original voice actor for Kratos has shared a supportive reaction.
Christopher Judge, known for playing Kratos, responded to the announcement of the actor cast as Hurst on X (formerly Twitter). He shared his excitement by quoting one of Kratos’ most iconic lines from the 2018 God of War game. You can see his post below.
Congrats Ryan!!!! You’re gonna be great… BOI !!!

Why Ryan Hurst Will Be a Great Kratos On God of War
Judge’s support for his God of War Ragnarok co-star is great to see, and many fans likely feel the same. While Hurst wasn’t the first actor people might have thought of for Kratos, he’s a fantastic choice and should be a valuable addition to the series. He’s well-known for his roles in popular shows like Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead, and he clearly has the range to portray Kratos’ complex personality. The recent God of War games have been praised for showing Kratos’ emotional depth alongside his famous anger, and Hurst seems capable of capturing that compelling balance, creating a fully realized character.
Having played similar roles before definitely benefits Hurst. Though Kratos and Thor are different, Hurst has already demonstrated his ability to convincingly portray a powerful god. In God of War Ragnarok, he did an excellent job bringing depth and complexity to Thor, creating a character that players truly connected with. Ragnarok‘s portrayal of Thor as a regretful, tragic figure provides a strong foundation for Hurst’s work as Kratos, who in the newer God of War games, is striving for redemption and personal growth.
Judge once actively campaigned to play Kratos in a live-action movie, but that didn’t happen. He seems to be handling the news about the TV show well, and it would be great to see him involved in some way. It’s common for the creative teams behind these series to include actors from the games in small roles as a fun nod to fans – like HBO did with Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson in The Last of Us. Seeing Judge appear would be a fantastic way to acknowledge his contribution to the God of War franchise.
Now that Christopher Judge (Hurst) is confirmed as Kratos, casting for the God of War show can really begin. Filling the role of Kratos was the top priority, and the team can now focus on finding the right actors for the other important characters. Casting Atreus will be particularly difficult, as working with child actors can be unpredictable. However, securing Judge as Kratos shows the showrunners are committed to a thorough search, and fans will be eager to see who else is cast.
