It’s been three years since God of War Ragnarök came out on PS5, and that means we’re about 75% of the way through the four-year gap between that game and the 2018 God of War reboot. So, a lot of us are starting to wonder if the next God of War is coming out next year, but honestly, we haven’t heard anything official yet. Recently, Christopher Judge, the amazing actor who plays Kratos, was asked about the future of the series. He didn’t give away any big secrets, of course, but he did share what he thinks should happen next, and it’s actually what a lot of fans like me are hoping for. And while he was talking, he might have accidentally let something slip… it was interesting, to say the least!
During a panel at MCM London Comic Con, Cory Barlog, creative director of God of War, appeared to accidentally hint at a new game in the series, though he quickly tried to correct himself. It’s unclear if a new game is actually in development, but Barlog did say he’s interested in having Kratos battle gods from Egyptian mythology – a concept many fans are excited about.
Egypt Pantheon
Christopher Judge, best known for playing Teal’c on Stargate, expressed his hope that a future God of War game would be set in Egypt, feeling it would be a fitting personal connection. However, he added that he’s confident any mythological setting the developers choose will be fantastic if another game is made.
Previous Rumors
While a new main God of War game is in development, details are scarce. Most rumors focus on a Metroidvaniastyle spin-off set in ancient Greece, acting as a prequel to the original trilogy. Remasters of older God of War* titles have also been mentioned, but there’s been no credible information about a sequel taking place in Egypt. Despite fan hopes and the developer’s personal interest in an Egyptian setting, there’s currently no evidence to suggest it’s happening. It seems likely Kratos will eventually battle Egyptian gods, but that’s probably still a long way off.
So, I’m really excited about everything we’ve talked about, and I’d love to hear what you think! Seriously, drop a comment and let me know your thoughts, or head over to the ComicBook Forum to chat with other fans. I’m already dreaming about where Kratos will go next in the next God of War game – where would you want to see it set?
