God of War Ragnarok Gets First New PS5 Update in Nearly a Year, Here’s What It Does

Santa Monica Studio just released its first new update for God of War Ragnarok in almost a year. While the game originally came out in 2022, the studio has consistently added new content through updates, most recently with the God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla update in 2023 and last year’s Anniversary patch. After that Anniversary patch, fans thought development on God of War Ragnarok had stopped, but today’s update proves that’s not the case.

This week, a new update (version 6.06) for God of War Ragnarok was released, but only for PlayStation 5. The update doesn’t change the game or fix any bugs. It simply adds compatibility with PlayStation 5’s new “Power Saver” mode, a feature that’s been rolling out to other PlayStation games recently.

If you’re interested, here’s a complete list of what’s new in the latest God of War Ragnarok update.

  • Adds compatibility for Power Saver mode on PS5 and PS5 Pro.

Power Saver mode on PS5 reduces the console’s energy use while you’re playing certain games, but it can slightly lower performance. Not all PS5 games work with this feature automatically, so game developers need to release updates – like this one for Ragnarok – to enable compatibility.

This update is likely the last major one for God of War Ragnarok. Since this patch didn’t change much within the game itself, it appears Santa Monica Studio has finished making alterations to Ragnarok. However, if Sony releases another PS5 upgrade – like the recent Power Saver mode update – we might see a new patch for Ragnarok then.
