Santa Monica Studio recently revealed a new trailer for God of War Sons of Sparta, the 2D game that surprised everyone when it was released last week during the State of Play event.
The game offers a glimpse into Kratos’ life before he met Ares and began his rampage against the gods. According to the team at Santa Monica Studio, achieving the game’s distinctive art style and smooth combat proved surprisingly challenging. Recreating some of the franchise’s most famous monsters, in particular, required a significant amount of effort.
We worked hard to stay true to what makes God of War special – namely, epic boss fights against creatures from Greek mythology. We also had the chance to introduce some lesser-known legends and bring them to life with visuals unlike anything seen in older, pixelated games.
The team rightfully takes pride in their work with Mega Cat Studios. The game features both classic enemies for Kratos and Deimos, and exciting new challenges. This title offers a fascinating glimpse into Kratos’s past, showing how he evolved from a Spartan warrior into the fearsome figure who would eventually challenge two groups of gods – and for good reason.
We really enjoyed playing Sons of Sparta. Once you finish the game, you and a friend can even team up for a challenging extra mode. If you’re up for it, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to playfully call each other “boy” while you play!
