There’s an update about the upcoming God of War TV show! It looks like we might find out who’s been cast in the Amazon series very soon.
What is the latest God of War TV news?
A recent report from industry insider Daniel Richtman indicates that casting is underway for the upcoming TV show. The report, shared by a fan and translated from another language, states that Amazon is searching for actors who fit the descriptions of characters like Kratos and Atreus from the original game.
In addition to announcing casting choices, a report suggests Amazon is searching for an actor to play a character similar to Odin, who wasn’t introduced until the second God of War game. The actor playing Atreus may only be contracted for one season, hinting at a possible recasting of the role later on.
The live-action God of War series has faced several delays since it was first announced in 2022. Originally, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby were writing the show, with Rafe Judkins as showrunner. However, in 2024, reports surfaced that all three had departed the project, as Sony and Amazon decided to pursue a different creative vision.
When the original creative team left, Ronald D. Moore took over as the lead writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Moore is a well-known science fiction writer with a long history in the genre, including work on shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. He later created or co-created popular series such as Battlestar Galactica, Outlander, and Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.
Cory Barlog, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Hermen Hulst, and Roy Lee are continuing their work on the series as executive producers.
As a huge movie and game fan, I’m really excited about the upcoming God of War show! It’s based on the PlayStation game by Santa Monica Studios, and it tells the story of Kratos, the God of War himself. Apparently, after all the battles and bloodshed in ancient Greece, he’s trying to settle down and leave that life behind in the Norse world of Midgard. It sounds like a really interesting change of scenery for him, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
