Godzilla Celebrates 70th Anniversary With Epic Promo

For the past few years, Godzilla has been celebrating the 70th anniversary of its debut film in grand style, and to mark this historic occasion, Toho has launched an impressive promotional campaign showcasing the kaiju’s illustrious history. This major anniversary celebration has brought some of the best success that the franchise has experienced in decades, which has led Toho to venture into new territories with Godzilla more than ever before. In fact, a collaborative project with China is on the horizon.

Toho Studio has made an official announcement about joining forces with Shanghai Xinchuanghua Cultural Development Co., Ltd. The collaboration aims to extend the reach of the Godzilla brand across China, as part of Toho’s ongoing $1 billion strategy to strengthen Godzilla’s global influence in recent years. To celebrate this new alliance, Toho released an impressive poster for Godzilla that highlights the iconic forms the legendary monster has assumed throughout its history. You can see it below.

What’s Next for Godzilla?

Previously this year, Toho disclosed their intentions to broaden the Godzilla franchise through various avenues, with multiple new projects currently in development. Legendary has a fresh addition to their Monsterverse, titled “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova“, now being produced for a theater release on March 27, 2027. Adam Wingard’s director role for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has been replaced by Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) and the script is penned by Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings). In addition to Dan Stevens, who reprises his role, the cast includes Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, Alycia Debnam-Carey, and Sam Neill.

The acclaimed show “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” on AppleTV+ is currently developing a new season, though no release date or timeline has been set yet. Chris Black and Matt Fraction are back as co-showrunners and executive producers from the first season. Furthermore, Amber Midthunder, known for her role in “Prey,” has joined the cast for the upcoming episodes. However, specific details about Midthunder’s character and the new season’s storyline have yet to be disclosed at this point.

What’s Next for Godzilla Minus One?

According to Toho’s latest updates, a new sequel to “Godzilla Minus One” is currently being developed. Although no release date or window has been announced yet, Toho executives aim to bring the film to theaters as early as next year. Pre-production for the movie starts this summer, so we can expect significant progress soon. As for what lies ahead in the upcoming sequel, many details remain a mystery at this point.

As an observer, I’m excited to share that the creator behind “Godzilla Minus One,” Takashi Yamazaki, is gearing up for another installment in this epic series. What we know so far is that this upcoming film will be a period piece, which aligns with the trend set by its predecessor. However, it’s not officially confirmed whether this new movie will be a direct sequel to “Godzilla Minus One.” But given the franchise’s most successful film in terms of both financial success and critical acclaim, a sequel seems like a strong possibility. Stay tuned for more updates!
