Godzilla is back in the spotlight! After appearing in the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV, the iconic monster will return to streaming platforms, as teased in recent promotions. But the excitement doesn’t stop there – Japan is also bringing Godzilla back to the big screen with the new film Godzilla Minus Zero. To celebrate Godzilla’s long history, Toho has released a special video looking back at the creature’s legacy.
Godzilla is usually known for epic, serious battles, but a new video celebrating his 71st anniversary is surprisingly lighthearted. Toho created the video using stop-motion animation with figures of Godzilla and other monsters from the Monsterverse. It’s full of funny moments and was directed by Cressa Maeve Aine, who has worked on big films like The Dark Knight Rises, Men in Black 3, The Avengers, and Captain America: The First Avenger. Godzilla’s Reign of Destruction Continues

Season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has added some frightening new creatures to Legendary’s Monsterverse, including a terrifying new titan called “Titan X.” This monster appears to be inspired by Biollante, a kaiju from Toho that was created by combining Godzilla and plant DNA. Currently, Titan X remains mostly hidden in the deep ocean, but it’s also releasing a swarm of smaller creatures that are causing problems for the Monarch organization. With the upcoming release of Godzilla x Kong: Supernova in 2027—the third film in the crossover series—it’s likely that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will continue to build towards the events of the next movie.
Following the success of Godzilla Minus One, a sequel is planned for release later this year, with Takashi Yamazaki returning as director. While details are scarce, given how well-received the first film was, the sequel is expected to be a big hit. Fans are guessing that, since the original focused on Godzilla battling humans, Yamazaki might introduce another famous monster to fight him. Interestingly, Yamazaki recently designed a King Ghidorah ride for a Japanese theme park, making the three-headed dragon a likely candidate for the new film.
