Godzilla Completely Steamrolls a Marvel Cosmic Powerhouse (& It’s All Bad News)

In no time at all, Godzilla has demonstrated why he’s known as “The Monarch of Monsters,” defeating a formidable Marvel titan. Fans have enjoyed witnessing Godzilla’s interactions within the Marvel realm through a series of standalone issues, where he crosses paths with the Fantastic Four, Hulk, Thor, and numerous others. All these encounters culminate in “Godzilla Wrecks the Marvel Universe“, an exciting limited series showcasing the epic battle between Godzilla and every hero at Marvel’s disposal. These characters are accustomed to battling insurmountable odds, but they’ve never encountered Godzilla. However, when it seems like Godzilla might finally have a fair fight, he swiftly defeats an adversary that even troubles the Avengers. SPOILER ALERT: Spoilers for Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #1 lie ahead.

In this first installment titled “Godzilla Wrecks the Marvel Universe” by Gerry Duggan, Javier Garron, Jesus Aburtov, Andrew Dalhouse, and VC’s Travis Lanham, we discover that it was the Fantastic Four’s arch-nemesis, Mole Man, who inadvertently stirred Godzilla from his deep slumber within our planet. With grand ambitions, Mole Man seeks to convert a rare Vibranium lode charged with unstable particles into a deadly weapon, aspiring to become an invincible monarch. Regrettably for him, he soon realizes the existence of another, far more formidable king – Godzilla.

The Fantastic Four delve into the mysterious earthquakes beneath the city, hinting at an entity attempting to emerge. Contrary to expectations, it’s not Godzilla but a Cosmic Entity called a Celestial that stirred. Though Mr. Fantastic was aware of this Celestial, it wasn’t expected to awaken for another million years. It seems Godzilla is the culprit, and he announces his arrival by bursting through the Earth’s crust, setting up an epic battle between a Celestial and Godzilla.

Godzilla Kills a Celestial, and All the Fantastic Four Can Do Is Watch

Emerging from the waters of New York Harbor, Godzilla looms above structures and the Statue of Liberty, casting an imposing figure. However, Godzilla encounters a formidable adversary in the shape of the Celestial being, leading to titanic clashes. The narrator emphasizes that Celestials were engineered for survival in the boundless emptiness of outer space and the searing fires at the Earth’s core, hinting at their resilience and near-indestructibility. Nevertheless, the Celestial confronting Godzilla suffers a grisly demise, as this is the first time such an encounter has occurred.

In a surprising turn of events, Godzilla seizes the Cosmic Being by its face and violently tears off its head, leaving nothing but debris behind. A triumphant roar echoes through the air as the fragments of the Cosmic Being fall to the ground below. The Fantastic Four are left speechless, their eyes wide in disbelief, for they’ve never witnessed such a gruesome spectacle even from beings of immense cosmic power like the Celestials. To add a touch of irony, Godzilla flings away the decapitated head as if it were an insignificant object, leaving the Fantastic Four in a state of stunned amusement at this unexpected twist of events.

In this rephrased version, here’s how the story unfolds: The Fantastic Four enlist the aid of the Avengers to protect New York City. Godzilla exhibits another jaw-dropping display of force, slamming Thor far out into the cosmos with a powerful tail swipe. Mr. Fantastic concocts a plan to send Godzilla to the Negative Zone, but instead, he and Captain America, Invisible Woman, and The Thing find themselves in that dimension. Issue #1 of Godzilla Wreaks Havoc on the Marvel Universe concludes with additional heroes arriving to lend a hand: Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Iron Man, Ghost-Spider, Luke Cage, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Deadpool. Wade Wilson humorously suggests they should either rebrand as the New Avengers or the New Thunderbolts.
