I’ve noticed Godzilla’s popularity is really at an all-time high right now. In Japan, they’ve already started making a sequel to Godzilla Minus One, called Godzilla Minus Zero, with the same director, Takashi Yamazaki. Here in North America, the MonsterVerse is coming back next year with season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and we’ll see Godzilla and Kong team up again in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova in 2027. It’s not just movies and TV, though – Godzilla’s also making waves in comic books, and apparently, a brand new, incredibly powerful form of the monster is about to appear.
The IDW comic book series featuring Godzilla has a surprising twist: after seemingly dying, the King of Monsters is returning as a new form of energy called “Kai-Sei.” IDW has revealed that Godzilla’s consciousness now resides within a teenage boy, and this transformation promises to unleash his full power. Similar to how Superman once existed as pure energy, Godzilla appears to be abandoning his physical body with this change.
IDW’s eighth issue of the series features a unique twist: Godzilla exists as pure energy inside a teenage boy named Jacen – or perhaps Jacen is trapped inside Godzilla! As Jacen and the G-Force team try to control this powerful, new form of Godzilla, a girl named May takes advantage of the situation to trigger a massive kaiju stampede. Kaiju from all over the country are heading towards a farm in the Midwest, and without a leader to guide them, they threaten to destroy everything in their path. You can get a glimpse of this new Godzilla form in the video below.

Godzilla’s Recent Transformations

Godzilla recently gained a striking new look in a short film, offering a fresh take on the classic monster. This form, called “Burning Millennium Godzilla,” keeps the creature’s original design but adds intense fiery power, making it one of his strongest forms yet. In the movie Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Godzilla gained power by absorbing the DNA of other monsters, so this new transformation, known as “Kai-Sei,” has a high bar to meet.
We recently spoke with comic book writer Jake Williams about a major change coming in the IDW Godzilla series. As Godzilla enters a new phase, Williams believes comics should be bold, and he feels there’s no bigger statement than killing off Godzilla to conclude the first story arc – the first ongoing Godzilla comic in over ten years. He encourages new readers to start now, promising a unique take on Godzilla and fulfillment of their goal to tell the story of ‘a boy with the power of Godzilla.’
