A new Godzilla movie is coming to theaters! Following the huge success of Godzilla Minus One, TOHO is releasing a sequel, currently titled Godzilla Minus Zero, with a worldwide release planned for 2026. For the first time, the United States and Japan will get the film at the same time. This continues the franchise’s momentum, building on recent projects like Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
The highly anticipated sequel, Godzilla Minus Zero, will premiere in Japan on November 3rd, according to TOHO and GKIDS. Remarkably, North American audiences won’t have to wait long, with the film opening in the US and Canada just three days later on November 6th. This is a huge, nearly simultaneous global release for the Godzilla franchise, allowing fans worldwide to see it around the same time. A new teaser poster for Godzilla Minus Zero has also been released and can be viewed below.
When Does Godzilla Minus Zero Come Out?

The new Godzilla film, Godzilla Minus Zero, will premiere in Japan on November 3rd, and then be released in the United States and Canada on November 6th. Takashi Yamazaki, who directed, wrote, and handled the visual effects for Godzilla Minus One, is returning to lead the project. While TOHO hasn’t revealed any plot details or confirmed if this is a direct sequel, the film is currently in production at Toho Studios, with ROBOT handling production and SHIROGUMI Inc. creating the visual effects.
A new Godzilla movie, titled Godzilla Minus Zero, is in development following the huge success of Godzilla Minus One. Godzilla Minus One was the most acclaimed and profitable film in the franchise’s 70-year history, so a sequel was quickly greenlit and is expected later this year. With Godzilla now gaining even more recognition – including an Academy Award win – the franchise continues to grow in popularity.
What’s Next for Godzilla?
While Godzilla Minus One is generating a lot of excitement, it’s not the only new Godzilla project in development. Apple TV+ will release the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on February 27th, featuring ten new episodes. Plus, Legendary’s Monsterverse is preparing its next big movie, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, which is scheduled to hit theaters on March 27, 2027. These developments confirm TOHO’s previously announced plan to invest a billion dollars into expanding the Godzilla franchise.
Late last year, rumors began circulating about a sequel to Godzilla Minus One potentially filming as early as Summer 2025, with a planned release in 2026. These reports have now been officially confirmed! What’s really exciting is that fans worldwide will be able to see the movie within its first week of release – it’s fantastic news, and now all we can do is eagerly await its arrival.
