It feels like the United States and Japan are in a friendly competition when it comes to making Godzilla movies. America has its MonsterVerse with several films and a TV show, and Japan’s Toho company is building its own new cinematic universe centered around Godzilla. Now, it looks like these two versions of Godzilla might be connecting, with an upcoming event hinting at a villain who could be important in the next film, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.
The Godzilla Expo is coming back to Fukuoka this summer, running from June 4th to June 22nd. Along with the announcement, a new poster was revealed, showcasing different versions of Godzilla and featuring the villains Moguera and Spacegodzilla. Recently, online speculation has increased that Spacegodzilla will be the main enemy in the next Godzilla x Kong movie, fueled by newly filed trademarks suggesting the character’s appearance.

Godzilla’s Alien Double Might Return

Last year, a writing credit for the upcoming film Godzilla x Kong: Supernova revealed that Toho owns the rights to “Space Godzilla,” hinting at a major new villain. Space Godzilla first appeared in the 1994 Japanese film Godzilla Vs. Spacegodzilla. This alien creature was created when Godzilla’s cells were exposed to the radiation of a black hole and then traveled to Earth. Interestingly, the same film also introduced Moguera, a robotic creature built as an upgraded version of Mechagodzilla. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, many fans believe Moguera could appear alongside Space Godzilla in the next Legendary film, potentially with a redesigned appearance.
Toho announced the return of the Godzilla Expo, officially named “Godzilla Expo in Fukuoka,” due to popular demand. The event will be held from June 4th to June 22nd, 2026, at the Daimaru Fukuoka Tenjin Store. Toho will be regularly updating event details, so stay tuned for more information. Currently, there are no plans for a similar event in North America, but given Toho’s recent focus on expanding Godzilla’s global reach, a world tour for the Expo is a possibility in the future.
