Google Cloud’s new Web3 portal offers resources for blockchain developers, but the response within the crypto community has been divided. Some critics, like Unchained’s Phil Geiger and pseudonymous trader MartyParty, have expressed disappointment over the lack of native Bitcoin and Lightning support. Others, such as Mitroplus Labs’ Ivaibi Festo, have praised it as a valuable resource.
Google Cloud recently launched a new Web3 platform catering to blockchain developers, offering access to datasets and instructional materials on developing non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Yet, responses from the cryptocurrency community have been divided on this announcement.
“The vice president of product marketing at Unchained, Phil Geiger, expressed surprise in a recent Reddit post on April 25th, commenting that the lack of native Bitcoin and Lightning Network support appears to be an oversight given Bitcoin’s significant role as the leading cryptocurrency.”
“MartyParty, a pseudonymous crypto trader with 80,700 followers, expressed disappointment on April 26 that Google is lagging behind.”
In my analysis, some individuals found the Web3 portal launch appealing. According to Ivaibi Festo, the founder of Mitroplus Labs, he viewed it as a “thorough and extensive resource,” as expressed in his April 25 update on platform X.
On Ethereum‘s website, developers are given the opportunity to explore various offerings and obtain testnet tokens to experiment with deploying and fine-tuning their decentralized applications (DApps) on the test networks Sepolia and Holesky.
Additionally, it offers a learning program featuring simple-to-follow tutorials on creating your own NFT using the provided tools, setting up Web3 customer loyalty schemes, and enhancing the security of your digital possessions through multi-party computations (MPC).
This comes after several recent developments by Google in the Web3 industry.
As a researcher studying the latest developments in blockchain technology, I can tell you that a notable expansion has been made to this platform’s capabilities. Now, users are empowered to query wallet balances across various blockchains including Bitcoin, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Polygon, and Fantom.
In early 2024, Google made a change in its advertising policies permitting specific cryptocurrency offerings such as Bitcoin ETFs to be promoted on its primary search platforms.
last year, it seemed that Google was prioritizing forming alliances in anticipation of launching their portal this year.
In October 2023, MultiversX and Google Cloud’s BigQuery data warehouse will be connected, enabling Web3 projects and users to access advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence capabilities residing in Google Cloud.
In the September 2023 timeframe, approximately a month prior to the present, Google’s BigQuery incorporated 11 different blockchain networks into its data warehousing system.
Among the newly integrated networks are Avalanche, Arbitrum, Cronos, Ethereum’s Görli test network, Fantom, Near, Optimism, Polkadot, Polygon’s mainnet, and Polygon’s Mumbai testnet, as well as Tron.
