Gordon Ramsay admits it was “painful” when daughter Tilly didn’t want to be trained by him

Only one of Gordon Ramsay‘s six children wants to be a chef like him, and she’s pursuing that path independently.

After appearing on shows like Dish It Out and Matilda and The Ramsay Bunch, Tilly Ramsay is now taking her cooking to the next level. She’s enrolled at the prestigious Ballymaloe Cookery School, a move that even surprised her dad!

A new Netflix series, Being Gordon Ramsay, details Tilly Ramsay’s decision to move to Dublin and study at Ballymaloe. While Gordon Ramsay is very proud of his daughter’s culinary path, he confessed it was difficult for him that she didn’t train with him.

Ramsay recently told TopMob how pleased he is to see more women succeeding in the industry. He’s consistently supported talented women for the past 25 years, and he’s thrilled to see them reaching the highest levels of their careers. He believes Tilly is just starting out on her path, and he’s excited to see what she accomplishes in the next five to ten years.

Ramsay explained that it was difficult for him when Tilly chose not to train with him, preferring to save for tuition at Ballymaloe. He said it felt like a parental letdown, but he ultimately admired her independence and her desire to forge her own path, telling him, ‘No dad, I’m training elsewhere.’

He explained that she unexpectedly left for Ireland without telling anyone. She just went and didn’t bother checking in with him. He felt that the least he could do was buy her some new clothes for the trip, and he described that as a significant moment for both of them.

Ramsay added that Tilly is “feisty” so much so that her nickname is “feisty Tilly”.

He described her as incredibly passionate, recalling how she was even making bread from scratch before work yesterday. He added that her enthusiasm was infectious, saying ‘We need more people like Tilly in the world!’
