Gordon Ramsay is a world-renowned chef with over forty years of experience. He honed his skills training with culinary masters like Marco Pierre White and Albert Roux, and his restaurants have collectively earned eight Michelin stars.
Despite his successful and busy career, a certain issue consistently bothers the celebrity chef, and he’s encouraging everyone in the food world to work together to fix it.
While promoting his new Netflix show, Being Gordon Ramsay, the chef discussed how the restaurant industry has evolved, particularly over the past five years since the start of the pandemic.
He believes it’s much harder for young people to start their own businesses today. High living costs, expensive rent, and a lot of business failures create a challenging environment. He worries they might get discouraged, even though he thinks this country offers incredible opportunities, especially in the food industry.
Ramsay believes that in the next year to a year and a half, they’ll be among the leading nations in Europe, though this progress will take time.
Ramsay added that while things will improve and new restaurants will eventually thrive, the current situation is challenging. He believes they simply need to be a bit more patient and stay the course for now.
Above all, hold onto your dreams and keep your passion alive. Success takes time and effort – it’s a marathon, not a quick sprint. We will overcome this challenge.

Despite his generally positive outlook, Gordon Ramsay says there‘s one thing that really bothers him. He recently attended the 2026 Michelin Guide awards, where his restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, kept its three-star rating. However, he heard a statistic there that he found frustrating.
He shared with TopMob that he attended the Michelin Awards on Monday and was shocked to learn only 8% of the industry is female. He described this as both appalling and embarrassing.
Honestly, seeing how few people in this industry are getting paid fairly really gets to me. It’s incredibly frustrating and makes me genuinely angry to think about.
I heard Ramsay say we really need to find more dynamic and appealing ways to get more women involved in the industry. It’s about making things more exciting for everyone, but especially for potential female colleagues.
We have some incredibly strong performers like Clare Smyth, Angela Hartnett, and Kim Ratcharoen. However, we’re missing that crucial female perspective, which was surprising, and it’s something we need to address.
Over the next ten years, we all need to focus on finding and encouraging talented, energetic young women to join and thrive in this field.
