Gossip Girl author confirms sequel novel about Blair Waldorf with major time jump and release window

Cecily von Ziegesar, the author of the original Gossip Girl series, is writing a new novel that will catch readers up on the life of a popular character from the show.

The new book, simply called ‘Blair,’ revisits the popular character Blair Waldorf in her 40s. She’s back in New York City and once again involved in the glamorous world of the Upper East Side’s elite.

Details about the story are still secret, but many people are already wondering if this new book could lead to a resurgence of the popular TV show it’s based on.

Blair is expected to be released in summer 2027. Grand Central Publishing will release the book in the US, while Orion Fiction will handle publication in the UK and other international markets (according to Deadline).

The TV show Gossip Girl, which aired from 2007 to 2012 and was based on the novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, was a major hit. It helped make stars out of actors like Blake Lively (known for It Ends With Us), Penn Badgley (You), and Chace Crawford (The Boys).

Despite a new version with a different cast appearing on HBO Max, it didn’t achieve the same success. Critics gave it mixed reviews, and the show was cancelled after just two seasons.

With a new Blair novel on the horizon, could we see a revival of Gossip Girl? It’s possible, but it’s unknown if Leighton Meester, who originally played Blair, would be interested in reprising her role.

The actress recently talked about her time on Gossip Girl at the SAG Awards last year. She and Kristen Bell, who narrated the show, did a playful skit making fun of some of the celebrities attending the event.

When the revival of the show was starting on HBO Max, actress Blake Lively seemed hesitant about returning to her role, telling Fox 5 New York she wasn’t sure she’d be a good fit for the updated version.

Meester has recently been in several shows, including Netflix’s Nobody Wants This with Kristen Bell and her husband Adam Brody, as well as The Buccaneers on Apple TV+ and the HBO comedy I Love LA.

Alloy Entertainment continues to own the rights to adapt Gossip Girl for television and film. They’re experienced in bringing popular book series to the screen, as demonstrated by their success with shows like The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars.
