As was strongly rumoured for some time, Resident Evil Requiem will feature two protagonists, then.
Grace Ashcroft, the previously revealed main character, will team up with the experienced Leon S. Kennedy, and their paths will cross and connect.
The game will play much like Resident Evil Revelations, switching between two main characters during the story. However, unlike some games with multiple characters, their individual storylines will ultimately merge into a single, cohesive campaign.
I’ve been reading interviews with the director, Akifumi Nakanishi, and it sounds like they’re really aiming for a strong contrast between the two characters. Apparently, playing as Grace will be a really intense, scary survival horror experience, while Leon’s sections will be much more focused on action and fast-paced gameplay. It sounds like a cool way to switch things up!

Nakanishi explained to Automaton that Grace is incredibly timid – ‘the biggest scaredy-cat in Resident Evil history‘ – which makes her dynamic with the experienced and unflappable Leon particularly entertaining.
Nakanishi likened the contrast to “taking a cold shower after a hot sauna”.
He said:
If the entire game focused solely on Grace’s story, it would be relentlessly terrifying. Leon’s sections provide a breather, offering players moments of safety between the intense horror of Grace’s chapters. This back-and-forth is intentional, creating a specific horror experience. Because of this structure, while Requiem is genuinely frightening, it also delivers a sense of excitement and accomplishment that previous Resident Evil games haven’t quite achieved.
To relieve the pressure, Leon will be able to use a variety of fighting moves, including hand-to-hand combat like roundhouse kicks, and even a chainsaw, as briefly shown in the trailer.
It will also be interesting to watch the character revisit Raccoon City after a long absence, adding a layer of mystery and anticipation to the story.
We’re interested in showing how the character handles challenges as he’s matured, and the decisions he makes in response to what’s happening around him.
