Grace star announces exit from show: “It’s been a wonderful journey”

As a long-time fan of the gripping crime drama “Grace,” I must admit that the news of Craig Parkinson’s departure has left me with a mix of emotions. On one hand, I am saddened to see Norman Potting, a character I have grown fond of over the years, leave the series. On the other hand, I understand and respect his decision to move on after such a remarkable run.

Actor Craig Parkinson, who is well-known for his role in the crime series, has disclosed that he won’t be continuing with the show following the upcoming fourth season.

This coming Sunday, the TV show inspired by Peter James’ bestselling books will be back on ITV1 and ITVX. Detective Sergeant Roy Grace, portrayed by John Simm, will tackle fresh enigmas in a new series of mysteries.

But, he won’t be able to depend on character DS Norman Potting (played by Martin Compston in Line of Duty) for much longer, as the actor announced his departure from the series through an Instagram post today.

In simpler terms, he decided to retire Norman Potting’s detective badge after enjoying several joyful years on the job.

“Starting September 1st, the new season of ‘Grace’ airs on ITV, marking its final run. Playing this character from script to screen has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to breathe life into him for a fresh audience.”

Parkinson went on to say, “It was a significant duty to depict a character from Peter James’s cherished book collection. However, we made some adjustments thanks to our talented scriptwriters and the backing of Peter himself.”

“I’m really glad that he resonated with the audience.”

The actor, famous for roles in Doctor Who, Renegade Nell, and more, expressed his gratitude towards Simm, Richie Campbell, Brad Morrison, Zoë Tapper, Laura Elphinstone, along with the entire team behind the scenes who work tirelessly to make the show a reality and bring it to life.

Parkinson expressed: “It’s been an incredible adventure portraying Norman Potting, running through the streets of Brighton and hanging villains from Brighton Pier. I truly hope you find this season enjoyable; it’s been a thrill.”

“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of you who’ve tuned in, backed us, and even taken the time to say ‘hello’ while we were filming in the vibrant cities of Brighton and Hove. Here comes a new season of Grace for your viewing pleasure, which happens to be my last one. I truly hope you find it as enjoyable as I did making it.”

Since Grace has been extended for another season (5th), viewers can breathe a sigh of relief knowing the series won’t abruptly conclude; however, we’ll notice one fewer familiar character joining us in the upcoming season.

Grace returns to ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm on Sunday 1st September 2024.
