As a huge fan of Grantchester, what I’ve always loved most is the dynamic between DI Geordie Keating and whoever’s been the local vicar. It started with Sidney Chambers, then moved to William Davenport, and now Alphy Kotteram – each partnership felt special, but they all really made the show for me. That relationship is truly at the heart of everything that makes Grantchester work.
This popular historical drama first appeared on ITV in the UK and PBS in the US back in 2014, and it’s now enjoyed ten successful seasons – a remarkable achievement for any television show.
Robson Green recently shared that, as he enters the later part of his life, he wants to focus on collaborating with people he enjoys and pursuing projects that are both fulfilling and creatively stimulating.
Ultimately, my biggest goal is to enjoy my work, and Grantchester really allows me to do that. I hope it stays that way for a long time.
I’m so excited for season 11 – we found out it was happening way back in July! But I’m starting to wonder when it’ll actually be on TV, and honestly, I’m hoping it doesn’t end too soon! I’m really curious to know how many episodes they’re planning.
Here’s everything you need to know about Grantchester season 11 and beyond.
Is Grantchester ending with season 11?
Sadly yes. Season 11 will be the drama’s final instalment.
From the start, I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with this amazing team. They’re not just colleagues; they’ve become like family. We’ve built strong friendships through everything we’ve experienced together – the good times, the tough challenges, and all our successes, said Green, who has been with the show since day one.
The connections we’ve made go much deeper than just working on the show, and I’m confident they’ll last even after we finish filming the last episode of Grantchester. I’m so grateful to everyone who has been a part of this amazing experience.
Rishi Nair, who played Alphy starting in season 9, shared that it was “a real privilege to join the Grantchester series and be involved in such a heartwarming show.”
As a film lover, I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to work on stories that have resonated with so many people, and I’m truly grateful for the opportunity.
Starting this last part of the story fills me with happiness and thankfulness – for all the wonderful memories, the great friendships, and the amazing experience we’ve had together.
Whew…. is something cutting onions?
Grantchester season 11 release date speculation: When could it air?
I’m so excited – they started filming the new season last summer! If the usual pattern holds, and considering season 10 wraps up on February 19th, I’m guessing we’ll finally get to see the new episodes here in the UK around 2027. It usually airs on PBS in the US a year before, so that seems like a reasonable timeframe.
Based on how the show has been released in the past three years, we anticipate it will be available in January 2027.
Grantchester season 11 cast: Who’s returning?

Robson Green and Rishi Nair are both back as Geordie Keating and Alphy Kotteram respectively.
They will also be joined by the following regulars:
- Kacey Ainsworth as Cathy Keating
- Al Weaver as Leonard Finch
- Tessa Peake-Jones as Mrs C
- Oliver Dimsdale as Daniel Marlowe
- Nick Brimble as Jack Chapman
- Bradley Hall as DC Larry Peters
- Melissa Johns as Miss Scott
It’s still unclear if any familiar faces will appear, though rumors about James Norton have been minimized. We also don’t yet know which new actors will be guest starring.
Grantchester season 11 plot: What will happen?

In the final part of the story, Alphy spends a lot of time considering what his future holds, especially as he discovers details about his past and questions his current life. At the same time, we see his relationship with Meg, the bishop’s daughter, develop.
Geordie is unusually cheerful these days! He’s become more resilient and is currently enjoying a peaceful period. Cathy is pleased that her fashion boutique, CeCe’s, is doing well, and the children are now independent enough to manage on their own.
Suddenly, the Chief Superintendent makes Geordie an appealing offer. It’s a potential opportunity for him to take command, but it might also mean the end of his career as a detective – and his working relationship with Alphy.
With things relatively calm at the halfway house, Leonard has a moment to reflect on his life and if he’s making the most of it. When a neighbor of Daniel’s gets sick, Leonard starts helping with the neighbor’s son, Raymond, and unexpectedly finds himself embracing a fatherly side he didn’t know existed.
Grantchester seasons 1-10 are available to stream on ITVX in the UK.
