ITV has greenlit a new psychological thriller called The Only Suspect, adapted from the popular novel by Louise Candlish.
Simon Ashdown, a well-known writer for the show EastEnders (and recently for Our House and Trigger Point), has adapted the series. Kevin McKidd, famous for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, will also star.
The four-part series, The Only Suspect, is set in a quiet London suburb and centers on Alex and Beth, a seemingly happy couple who are hiding a dark secret.
The story begins in the scorching summer of 1995, shifting between the present day and Camden in the mid-’90s – a time when British culture was booming. We meet a young man who, amidst a fierce storm, secretly buries a body.
The identity of the victim and the reason for their death remain a central mystery, unfolding as the story jumps between the past and present.

Thirty years have passed, and a new heatwave is affecting a changed world. The old railway line where the body was found – located behind Alex and Beth’s homes – is now being turned into a walking path, a project led by Beth. While this seems like a positive development for the community, it puts Alex in danger.
Alex is the man who secretly buried a body years ago. Now, after living under a false identity for decades, his new life is falling apart. Construction workers are about to dig up the very spot where he hid the body, and Alex must decide just how far he’ll go to keep his secret hidden.
The Only Suspect is a captivating and suspenseful thriller that delves into themes of obsession, lies, and betrayal. It examines how impulsive decisions made in the past can have lasting consequences, and how secrets inevitably come to light.
McKidd expressed his enthusiasm for joining the series, stating that working with ITV on ‘The Only Suspect’ feels like a comfortable and welcome experience. He’s particularly excited about the depth and complexity of his character, Alex, and looks forward to collaborating with Farren and the team at Red Planet Pictures, alongside a talented cast of British actors.
