Grey’s Anatomy season 22 episode 6 leaves two beloved characters in dangerous health situations – and one of them has been beloved since day one

Last night’s midseason finale of Grey’s Anatomy (November 13th) put two Grey Sloan doctors in dangerous and dramatic situations.

Okay, so the previews for episode 6, “When I Crash,” really had me worried! They hinted that Dr. Jo Wilson, played by Camilla Luddington, was in serious, life-or-death trouble – Winston actually told everyone her heart was failing! And then there was Teddy, Kim Raver’s character, who they showed pinned under a crashed bus. It looked absolutely terrifying!

Things took a worrying turn for Jo during her routine check-up in this episode. What started as a normal appointment revealed she was having trouble breathing, which doctors determined was a sign of peripartum cardiomyopathy.

Things quickly went downhill for Jo and her twins when medication didn’t help, and a procedure to implant a pump failed.

Because no obstetricians were available, Winston had to perform a C-section, which was his first time doing so since finishing medical school.

Honestly, I was so relieved when everything worked out for Teddy! He managed to free the woman who was trapped under the car, and thankfully, neither of them were hurt. It was a scary situation, but he kept a cool head and got them both out safely.

Teddy came through okay, but another Grey Sloan doctor received some frightening news about their health.

The episode ended with a shocking revelation: Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) announced he has cancer. This came after a heated argument with Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson).

Webber is one of only two remaining original cast members still appearing as a main character, alongside Wilson, who plays Dr. Miranda.

Fans will have to wait until January 8th to find out what happens with Jo and Richard, as Grey’s Anatomy returns with new episodes then.

In a recent interview with TheWrap, actor Troy Baker described the show’s midseason finales as a particular strength, saying, ‘This is what we do best.’ He was especially impressed with the latest episode’s script, calling it brilliantly written and leaving him shocked by its ending. He praised the writers as being exceptionally talented.

She warned that the situation is extremely precarious, and many involved may not make it through. She emphasized that even a small error could have devastating consequences, and advised everyone to brace themselves emotionally, as the next installment will be even more difficult than what has come before.

This season, the show has already killed off one main character: Dr. Monica Beltran, played by Natalie Morales, died in the very first episode.

I was absolutely heartbroken when that character died. It was such a shocking scene – trapped against the OR wall by falling surgical tools after that huge gas explosion at the end of season 21. It really stayed with me.

Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC and Hulu in the US and streams on Disney+ in the UK.
