As an eager admirer, I can’t help but speculate that the creators of Grounded might be subtly suggesting that the sequel, currently in its early access phase, could potentially make its way onto the PlayStation 5.
During an interview with Eurogamer, Marcus Morgan hinted at the potential release of Grounded 2 without giving away specific details. When directly asked about a possible PlayStation port, Morgan replied coyly, suggesting that there may be plans to bring Grounded 2 to this platform in the future.
Let me refrain from discussing that matter at the moment, but rest assured that Grounded 1 is available across all major platforms.
Originally, Grounded was in early access for approximately two years, and Obsidian anticipates a comparable duration for the sequel. This timeline suggests that console players on PS5 might experience Grounded 2 as late as 2027.
Instead of remaining in early access indefinitely, we aim to move beyond this stage, understanding that it requires some time. In our previous game, Grounded 1, we spent approximately two years in early access, which allowed us ample time to incorporate valuable feedback from the community and make necessary adjustments to the game.
Regarding when Grounded 2 might exit early access, Morgan mentioned that it would likely be “about the same time frame, but enough to ensure it’s properly polished.
Although the studio is working on the sequel, the original game will still be available. As Obsidian shared with Eurogamer, they have a strong intention to keep their games alive. However, when it comes to additional content or story expansions for Grounded 1, that’s for Grounded 2 instead.
We plan to keep supporting the original version of the game, as we want it to remain accessible for those who enjoy playing Grounded 1. However, if you’re interested in experiencing new stories, features, and quests, you should switch over to Grounded 2. The original game isn’t going anywhere if people continue to play it, but any further updates and developments will be focused on Grounded 2.
In April 2024, Obsidian Entertainment released Grounded for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. This was part of Microsoft’s initial wave of Xbox game ports, which also included Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves. Since then, Microsoft has been quickly porting its games to other consoles like the PS5, leading many to assume that future Xbox games will also be available on these platforms. Grounded 2 seems to be following this trend as well.
In our review of the Grounded PS5, we gave it an 8 out of 10 and summarized: “The game consistently challenges you, but never becomes overly difficult that you’d consider quitting. Now that it’s available on PlayStation, as well as other platforms, it’s more accessible than ever before. It comes highly recommended for those seeking a unique gaming experience beyond the ordinary.
