GTA 6 Online could have up to 96 players, according to insider

According to a trusted source who used to edit the French fansite Rockstar Mag, Grand Theft Auto 6’s online mode could potentially accommodate as many as 96 players.

As we eagerly anticipate the arrival of Grand Theft Auto 6 for its single-player adventure, it’s likely that in the time after its release, it will be the continually evolving Grand Theft Auto Online that remains active, potentially becoming even more bustling over time.

At the moment, GTA Online typically accommodates up to 32 players in a single server (officially speaking), but there have been instances where modified servers have hosted over 2,000 players, leading to widespread chaos in San Andreas. This is reminiscent of an apocalyptic scenario filled with griefing.

Regarding GTA 6, there’s a possibility that the maximum number of players could increase to 96. Interestingly, the team behind its online component is reportedly already managing 64 players concurrently. These speculations originate from Fravilys, who shared them on Medium.

As reported by Fravillys, a reliable source within the project, codenamed GTA6MP, claims to possess direct insights into the venture – quite creatively named, it seems.

In the context of the game, it’s rumored that Rockstar aims to enhance the player’s gaming experience by implementing changes designed to minimize lag or delay significantly.

Beyond that, it’s reported they are developing a feature called “Fluid Access,” designed to blur boundaries between separate sessions, creating a seamless multiplayer experience without interruptions. Essentially, this would allow for free-roam multiplayer activities with players from various sessions, all within your own environment and without any loading times.

In simpler terms, this seems to refer to a system similar to server-meshing, which is used in Star Citizen. This technology enables several servers to interconnect, functioning as a single entity. As a result, objects and players can move through the environment without any disruption or awareness of transitioning between different instances.

Distributing tasks across multiple servers lightens the burden on each individual server. Additionally, server meshing technology aims to become completely adaptable and deployable wherever it’s required.

For example, with many gamers eager for car-related chaos in Port Gellhorn, the actual size of these individual game servers could decrease regarding geographical scope. This way, there would be enough servers to cater to numerous players. On the other hand, vast rural areas might only require a single server, since fewer players tend to populate those regions.

Consider it like sharing the server resources evenly across the map, so we can prevent a situation where everyone gets ‘squeezed’ together in a particular area if too many players concentrate on the same region.

Although it’s important to approach rumors about GTA with a healthy dose of skepticism, given that cutting-edge technologies being demonstrated by other developers align with Rockstar’s technical expertise and resources, it wouldn’t be entirely unreasonable to consider such rumors as plausible.
