Gucci Mane is detailing his mental health journey.
Following his recent revelation in his book, Episodes: The Diary of a Recovering Mad Man, that he lives with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, the rapper has been sharing details about a mental health crisis he experienced in 2020, which led him to get help.
Gucci Mane, 45, recently shared on The Breakfast Club that he’s committed to prioritizing his well-being. He explained that he wants to take full responsibility for his health and avoid future health crises. To do this, he plans to see a therapist and is even open to taking medication if necessary.
He admitted he’d given up, saying he was willing to do whatever it takes to improve and prevent a similar situation from happening again.
Rapper Radric Davis, known as “Wake Up in the Sky,” was recently hospitalized. His wife, Keyshia Ka’Oir, sought help for him as he was dealing with mental health challenges. They share two young children: a 4-year-old son named Ice Davis and a 2-year-old daughter named Iceland Ka’oir Davis.
She explained on the radio that she and others orchestrated a plan to bring him to the hospital. They hired an attorney and bodyguards, then forcibly took him from where he was. He resisted, trying to fight and even jump out of the car, but they held him securely in the center backseat during the transport.
Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness that affects how someone understands reality. Symptoms can include hallucinations, like hearing voices or seeing things that aren’t there, as rapper Gucci Mane has shared about his own experiences, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Following Keyshia’s support, the 40-year-old, who married Gucci Mane in 2017, started using a method to recognize when he’s about to experience a difficult episode and help him avoid it. She believes the 2020 episode was the last one he’s had.
