The Gundam series is a hugely popular anime franchise, famous for its giant robot battles. While many Gundam shows and movies are available on streaming platforms, the official Gundam YouTube channel has been adding a lot of classic stories. This week, they released a large collection of series and films, and we’ve put together a guide to the highlights. If you’re looking for some exciting robot action to watch this weekend, you’ve come to the right place!
5.) The OG Gundam Film Trilogy

Looking to get into the world of Gundam? A great place to start is with the Mobile Suit Gundam trilogy! These three movies – Mobile Suit Gundam I, Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow, and Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space – cover the entire original anime series. They’re a fantastic introduction to the iconic mecha battles and the universe that continues to be explored in new shows and films. Plus, you can even watch them for free on the official Gundam YouTube channel and experience the legendary rivalry between Amuro and Char for yourself!
4.) Gundam Wing Remastered

For many anime fans in North America, Gundam Wing was their very first experience with both the Gundam series and anime as a whole. It originally aired on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block and became so popular that it helped launch Adult Swim, with episodes shown without edits on weeknights. Compared to the original Gundam series, Gundam Wing featured much more action and exciting robot battles. Now, the Gundam channel has remastered the series in high definition, making it even more enjoyable. While a continuation of the Gundam Wing story hasn’t been made yet, fans are hoping for a sequel in the future.
3.) Gundam: The Witch From Mercury

Many fans consider Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury a standout in the long-running Gundam series, and it’s easy to see why. The anime features a unique world where Gundams are outlawed, but the protagonist, Suletta Mercury, needs one to navigate a peculiar school. Despite only finishing its run recently, the official Gundam YouTube channel is now offering all the episodes for free, which is a fantastic treat for fans. While The Witch From Mercury takes a different approach than other Gundam stories, it’s definitely worth checking out.
2.) G Gundam

You can’t watch the complete series of G Gundam on the Gundam YouTube channel right now, but the first episode is available for free. We had to include it because this fighting anime is still one of the most unique and over-the-top shows on our list. It centers around a tournament where different countries battle using giant robots, called Gundams, to determine the future. G Gundam has always been a popular choice among Gundam fans, and it’s easy to see why.
1.) Gundam: Char’s Counterattack

After you’ve watched the first three Gundam stories, you can continue the adventure with Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack. This highly-rated 1988 film is available to watch for free and is still popular with fans today. It’s considered one of the best in the entire Gundam series and really solidifies Char as one of anime’s most iconic villains, building on the original Gundam story. Though the Gundam universe has expanded since then, many fans feel this movie provides a satisfying conclusion to the long-running rivalry between Amuro and Char.
