Guy Pearce Shuts Down X Account After Anitsemitic Post Row

The actor has had a successful career in Hollywood since first appearing on the Australian soap opera Neighbours. He’s starred in films like Memento, The Hurt Locker, and L.A. Confidential, and played a villain in Iron Man 3. However, he recently gained attention for different reasons after Jewish News published an article highlighting a series of antisemitic posts linked to him.

The website alleges that Pearce made a highly critical comment on social media, stating he was deeply disgusted by Israelis and witnessing what he described as a disregard for Palestinian lives, calling it shameful and detrimental to humanity. It’s also claimed he shared videos and comments associated with far-right views and conspiracy theories alleging Charlie Kirk was financially incentivized to support Israel. Following these posts, Pearce issued an apology to Jewish News.

I’ve been made aware that I shared some inaccurate information about Palestine, and I sincerely apologize. I understand that spreading misinformation can be upsetting and confusing, and I’ll be much more careful to check facts before sharing anything online in the future.

After being slammed in a statement by a spokesperson for Campaign Against Antisemitism, which claimed that the actor had several times amplified material that “pushes toxic antisemitic conspiracies,” Pearce took to his own X account to share a second message, saying he was “stepping back” from social media to “prevent any further hurt.” His full post reads:

I recently apologized for posting inaccurate information on social media, and I truly meant it. However, I understand that words aren’t enough, and I need to take further steps. To avoid causing any more harm or confusion, I’m going to take a break from social media for now.

After deleting everything else, only one post is now visible on Pearce’s account.

Celebrities Have Been Frequently Challenged Over Social Media Interactions

Paramount Pictures

Celebrities have long faced a difficult balancing act when using social media to share their personal views. Recently, the conflict in Gaza has intensified this, with many well-known stars facing criticism or being labeled based on their opinions or support for either side of the war.

Melissa Barrera lost her role in the Scream movies because of posts she made online, which also led to other actors, like Jenna Ortega, leaving the project and nearly canceling the seventh film. This year, Gal Gadot and Rachel Zegler faced criticism for sharing their views, and some believe this contributed to the disappointing box office performance of Disney’s Snow White remake. Now, Pearce appears to be the latest person facing public backlash, and he believes the best solution is to step away from social media altogether to avoid further issues, as it’s become a constant source of conflict.
