Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham are teaming up for their sixth movie together, an action thriller called “Viva La Madness”.
Details about the movie’s storyline are currently secret, but it’s believed to be inspired by a novel by J.J. Connolly – a continuation of the story from his book “Layer Cake,” which starred a pre-James Bond Daniel Craig in a 2004 film. However, this new film will be a completely separate story, not a sequel, spin-off, or continuation of any previous adaptations of Connolly’s work.
Production is scheduled to start in January 2026. Currently, Jason Statham is the only actor confirmed for the film, which will be written and directed by Guy Ritchie. Statham and Thomas Benski (known for “Gangs of London”) first developed the project. They will produce it through Statham’s Punch Palace Productions and Lumina Studios, along with Ritchie’s Toff Guy Films.
Published in 2011, “Viva La Madness” is the story of X, a nameless drug dealer in London, and his world of sex, scams, drugs, and illegal money.
Layer Cake was adapted from J.J. Connolly’s 2000 novel and marked the first time Matthew Vaughn directed a film. Vaughn was already known as a producer, having worked on the successful films “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Snatch.”
It’s been over a decade since Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham first discussed working together on this film, and Statham was originally considered for the lead role as early as 2013.
