Gwen Stefani Details “Miracle” of Getting Pregnant in Her 40s

Gwen Stefani is grateful for all she has in this life—no doubt.

The 56-year-old recently talked about becoming pregnant with her third son, Apollo, with her former husband, Gavin Rossdale, when she was 43 years old.

I was really struggling at the time,” singer Gwen Stefani shared on the Hallow app on March 5. “I desperately wanted to have another child, but I couldn’t get pregnant, and I felt like I was getting too old. Then my oldest son, Kingston, told me he really wanted me to have a baby too. I had to tell him I was sorry, but that his mommy was too old to have another baby now.

When I was trying to get pregnant, my eight-year-old son, Kingston, started praying for me. I remember him saying, ‘Please God, let my mom have a baby,’ and I was just so touched, watching him and thinking, ‘Look at my sweet boy, praying for me.’

Gwen, who is also a mother to her 17-year-old son, Zuma, with Gavin, shared that she hadn’t asked or encouraged him to pray for her, but he does so every night.

She explained that she found out she was pregnant with Apollo about four weeks later, and gave birth to him naturally at the age of 44, calling it a wonderful surprise.

She looks back on the events, she said, as a “miracle.”

Even as Apollo celebrated his twelfth birthday on February 28th, his mother, Gwen, expressed her continued joy and gratitude on Instagram, writing, “I thank GOD for you every day. I love you so much.”

The photo slideshow featured pictures of Apollo from his childhood all the way up to recent pictures with his friends.

Gwen shared a photo of her youngest son, Apollo, with her husband, Blake Shelton, whom she married in 2021. The picture shows Apollo onstage with Blake, wearing headphones to protect his ears while Blake plays guitar.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani seem incredibly happy together, and Blake recently gave a glimpse into their life on their farm in Oklahoma.

I’m really excited to share that my wife, Gwen, and I are diving headfirst into gardening this year! We’re not just talking about a few flowers, though – we’re going all-in with a full-on, professional-level garden, almost like a little farm right here at home. I shared the news on Instagram recently, and we can’t wait to see what grows!

Blake playfully teased the pop star by sharing an old, slightly embarrassing photo of his wife wearing braces. He did this in good humor, as he’s often spoken about how much he loves her.

Blake Shelton shared a sweet Valentine’s Day message to Gwen Stefani on X (formerly Twitter), posting a photo of him kissing her cheek and writing, “My favorite person… I love you pretty girl!!!!!”

Gwen told Ryan Seacrest in November 2015 that she found someone attractive, but also noted it was strange they were both going through a similar experience at the same time. She shared that she’d been really comforted by others simply sharing their own stories with her – not necessarily in confidence, but just offering their perspectives, which helped her move forward.

In March 2018, Blake told Today, “I can’t help but be in love with her—she’s amazing.”

After a heartbreak—or at least, when I go through one—I need to express my feelings and want others to understand. I was really struggling, at my lowest point. Gwen Stefani helped me through it. It’s hard to imagine anyone else who could truly relate to the experience of a very public divorce from a fellow musician, as I shared with Billboard in July 2016.

Growing up in Orange County, California, I was used to the beach, which is very different from the Midwest. So being in Oklahoma and experiencing ranch life has been completely new and amazing for me. It’s something I never had the chance to do before.

Gwen told Ellen DeGeneres that she’s a big fan of weddings and that everyone, including her kids, adores Blake. She described him as incredibly lovable and said she often thinks about their marriage.

Gwen Stefani says her style has become more traditionally feminine recently, which she attributes to being in a loving relationship with a very masculine partner. She explains that when she was in the band No Doubt, she didn’t see herself as particularly sexy, and even into her thirties, she identified more as a tomboy, rarely even carrying a purse. Gwen was surprised when Blake was asked to do a photoshoot after being named People’s Sexiest Man Alive. He’s usually reluctant to pose for pictures, and she had to convince him, playfully telling him, ‘You should totally do it! You’re so sexy!’

Gwen described Blake as captivating and exceptionally talented, saying he has a magical quality that naturally draws people to him. She said he’s ‘literally a unicorn’ during a September 2019 interview on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live.

Blake Shelton tweeted in June 2018, while watching Gwen Stefani rehearse, that he was amazed by how many huge hits she’s written. He strongly suggests seeing her Las Vegas show if you can get tickets!

Blake shared on Good Dish in March 2022 that someone saved him from a really dark place. He described it like falling off a cliff and being caught, explaining that he’d never felt so supported by another person. He said knowing she always had his back was an incredible feeling.

Gwen shared that growing up, she always dreamed of getting married, finding a loving relationship like her parents had, and starting a family. When those plans fell apart, she had to rebuild her life and create a new vision for the future. She sees meeting Blake as a turning point, a wonderful surprise that helped her do just that, as she told People magazine in November 2024.

Oh my gosh, when Gwen talked about meeting her husband, it just wrecked me – in the best way! She said it felt like a whole new life starting, and honestly, I totally get it. She explained how devastating it was when her family broke down, like everything just shattered. She was so vulnerable talking about how hard it was to even try to rebuild after that, but then she said God brought this amazing person into her life to love her, and I just… I completely lost it. It’s just so beautiful and hopeful! I’ve been following her for years, and this interview in The Guardian back in November 2024 really showed a side of her I hadn’t seen before.
