The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree—just ask Apple Martin.
Apple Martin, the oldest child of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, recently proved that talent runs in the family. She made her debut as a director with a musical at Vanderbilt University on March 27th.
On March 30th, the 21-year-old shared a celebratory post to her Instagram Story. It featured a photo of her embracing two fellow members of her musical theater group while they held bouquets of flowers on stage.
Apple shared a photo and expressed how much she enjoyed the weekend, the people involved, and the entire production, creating wonderful memories. She also thanked her two friends, who worked as the musical director and producer, saying she couldn’t have done it without their help.
The theater group reposted Apple’s message to their Instagram Story, adding, “Miss Director couldn’t have said it better.”
Apple, who will graduate from Vanderbilt in May, also posted a photo on her Instagram Story of the theater group performing on stage, all dressed in black.
Apple enjoyed working on the production, but a career in the arts wasn’t her original plan. She actually intended to go to law school after college, but she wanted to try acting first before graduating from Vanderbilt last year.
She studies law, history, and society, and mentioned to Interview magazine in April 2025 that she’d like to take a theater class before graduating. She explained that it would be a good complement to her studies and her other activities.
She shared her passion for theater, saying it’s always been a big part of her life. While she hasn’t had any film experience yet, she’s been looking for opportunities to work on student films.
Ever since discovering a love for acting, Apple has completely changed her mind about wanting to follow in her parents’ footsteps.
She explained to Vogue in February that she went through a period where she was determined to forge her own path, different from her parents’. “I didn’t want to be a pop singer,” she said. “I enjoy musical theater, but the idea of performing solo as a singer really scared me.”
“I love dancing and I love acting,” she added. “My dream is to act.”
Her mom’s career path isn’t the only thing that Apple has been inspired by as of late.
At the New York premiere of Marty Supreme in December, Apple wore a Calvin Klein dress that her mom, Gwyneth Paltrow, 53, had famously worn to the premiere of her movie Emma back in 1996. Apple attended the event with her mother and brother, Moses Martin, 19.
Apple recalled a time when people told her she looked just like her mother. She happily accepted the compliment, saying, ‘That’s amazing!’
