Gypsy Rose Blanchard Speaks Out After Joking About Her Mom’s Murder

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is listening to her critics.

The 34-year-old addressed criticism she received for a social media video with Natalie Reynolds that appeared to downplay her involvement in the 2015 murder of her mother, Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, and admitted she hadn’t handled it well.

She explained to TMZ in an interview on March 23rd that her fans have always supported her because they enjoy watching her evolve. While she generally expects a positive reaction from her audience, she prefers not to dwell on her past.

“This was the first time I really went for something new,” Gypsy explained. “Sadly, it didn’t go as planned.”

In the TikTok video, the author of My Time to Stand, who is also a mother to 14-month-old Aurora Raina Urker and is engaged to Ken Urker, took part in the “We Listen and We Don’t Judge” challenge with Natalie and discussed her past criminal record.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this. I was watching this interview, and she just casually dropped that she went to prison for eight and a half years… because of her own mother! She made this ‘X’ with her arms, like, crossing someone out, and the interviewer was just so sweet, saying ‘Hey, we listen and we don’t judge.’ It’s just… wow. I can’t stop thinking about it! It’s so tragic and fascinating all at once.

Gypsy said she wasn’t trying to cause trouble when she made the video, explaining that she didn’t expect the negative reaction it got.

She explained that the video’s main message was about taking responsibility for past mistakes and focusing on personal growth, acknowledging that they, as public figures, aren’t perfect and have faced challenges. The goal was to emphasize positivity and learning from those experiences.

After welcoming her baby, Aurora, in December 2024, Gypsy Rose Blanchard realized she couldn’t escape her past. She worried about how she would eventually explain her criminal conviction to her daughter. (Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, while her former boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder.)

In May, on an episode of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lockup, she talked about the difficult question of how to tell her daughter about her past actions. She expressed her biggest hope: that her daughter will still love and forgive her.

Gypsy insisted she’s “not a monster,” and expressed a desire for her daughter, Aurora, to not believe that she is.

In late March 2024, three months after her prison release, Gypsy shared that she and Ryan broke up.

Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessively checking her Facebook, and she finally posted something. Apparently, things are really bad – she and her husband are separating! I’m so heartbroken for her, honestly. She said she had to move back in with her parents, way down by the bayou. It just…it feels so real now. I’m just devastated for her, but I need to know everything!

In late April 2024, shortly after filing for divorce, Gypsy revealed she was back together with her former fiancé, Ken Urker. She confirmed their renewed relationship the following month with a sweet video montage shared on TikTok.

In her video, Gypsy described her love story with Ken as “legendary.”

Gypsy recently tried an In-N-Out Burger for the first time – a Double-Double, made ‘animal style.’ She gave it a rating of 7 out of 10.

Gypsy described meeting Kim Kardashian, who has recently become involved in criminal justice reform, as a great honor.

Gypsy told TopMob News host Keltie Knight that she was grateful for the time she spent talking with a very kind woman. They discussed prison reform, a topic Gypsy feels strongly about, as she’s personally experienced the system and knows the woman has done great work in that area.

Just under three months after starting the divorce process, Gypsy revealed she was pregnant with her first child with her new partner, Ken.

Oh my gosh, you guys, she finally announced it! In a new YouTube video from July 2024, she said she’s eleven weeks pregnant! I almost screamed! And get this – she said it wasn’t planned at all, a total surprise! I’m so incredibly happy for her, I’ve been following her for years and this is just… amazing!

Gypsy and Ken found out they were having a girl at a party in August 2024. They later announced at a baby shower in November that they’ve decided to name their daughter Aurora Raina Urker.

Oh my gosh, you guys, Gypsy Rose Blanchard finally wrote her story! It’s called My Time to Stand, and it came out in December! She didn’t do it alone, though – she worked with Melissa Moore and Michele Matrisciani to get everything down. It’s… it’s everything, honestly. Her life! I pre-ordered it and I’ve read it like five times already!

Gypsy gave birth to her first baby on Dec. 28, 2024, exactly one year after her prison release.
