What to know:
- Layer-2 blockchain ZKSync had a bit of a whoopsie on Tuesday when an admin wallet was compromised. 🕵️♂️
- The hacker, clearly a fan of ZK tokens, made off with a cool $5 million. 💸
- The ZK token, perhaps feeling a bit under the weather, dropped almost 14% in the past 24 hours. 📉
In a turn of events that would make even the most seasoned crypto enthusiast raise an eyebrow, an admin wallet for layer-2 blockchain ZKsync was compromised on Tuesday. The hacker, presumably wearing a black hoodie and typing furiously, managed to abscond with $5 million worth of ZK tokens. 🖥️💨
The stolen funds were, according to ZKsync’s Twitter account, the “remaining unclaimed tokens from the ZKsync airdrop.” They also mentioned that “necessary security measures are being taken,” which is code for “we’re frantically trying to figure out how this happened.” 🛠️
The protocol’s ZK token, perhaps in a fit of despair, has dropped almost 14% over the past 24 hours. Volume, on the other hand, has increased by 96% to $71 million in the same period. It seems the market is as confused as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. 🐱🪑
ZKsync, in an attempt to reassure everyone, said the attack was an isolated incident and that it is confined to the token airdrop contract. Because nothing says “everything is under control” like a $5 million heist. 🕶️
