Hailee Steinfeld’s series, Arcane, is quickly becoming a modern fantasy classic and stands out as one of Netflix’s best fantasy shows. Netflix offers a lot of great fantasy options, including The Witcher, One Piece, and The Sandman. However, Arcane is the only one that has already achieved the status of a true classic.
The show is called Arcane. It features a large ensemble cast, but mainly focuses on the stories of Vi and Jinx, Echo and Heimerdinger, and Jayce and Viktor. These characters become caught up in a conflict between the wealthy city of Piltover and the undercity of Zaun, all while dealing with dangerous magic and the threat of outside forces. Arcane expertly mixes elements of classic fantasy, technology-enhanced magic, and even interdimensional travel, creating a compelling blend of science fiction and fantasy.
Hailee Steinfeld’s Arcane Is A Perfect 2-Season Fantasy Show
It’s difficult to overstate how good Arcane is. With a fantastic voice cast – including Hailee Steinfeld as Vi and Ella Purnell as Jinx – stunning animation, and brilliantly executed action, it’s a treat for the eyes and ears. But Arcane is more than just technically impressive; it tells a compelling story that skillfully blends intimate character development with high-stakes conflict and a brewing class war that could destroy everything.
What truly sets Arcane apart – and makes it a fantastic fantasy series – is its deeply developed magic system. Both the show and its source material, League of Legends, feature magic that feels raw, unpredictable, and almost like a natural element. This makes the characters’ attempts to harness it with technology, creating Hextech, incredibly exciting and suspenseful.
Arcane Has Already Gone Down As One Of The Best Video Game Adaptations Ever
Despite finishing its second season in 2024, Arcane is already considered one of the best adaptations of a video game into another medium. Before Arcane, most video game adaptations were poorly received. Movies like Resident Evil, Far Cry, and Assassin’s Creed were famously bad, creating a reputation for disappointing both gamers and moviegoers.
In the early 2020s, people began to view video game adaptations differently, largely thanks to the success of the series Arcane. Along with Arcane and Castlevania, films like Sonic the Hedgehog demonstrated that these adaptations didn’t need to simply retell a game’s story. Instead, they could create fresh narratives while still utilizing the established worlds and background stories of popular video games.
As a huge cinema and TV fan, I have to say Arcane is truly something special. It’s become known as one of the best adaptations of a video game ever, and it’s a prime example of how amazing adult animation can be. What’s really incredible is how much everyone loved it – it actually got a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, even after waiting three years for the second season! Arcane proved that shows based on games can be fantastic stories in their own right, even if you’ve never played the original game.
Though Arcane Is Over, There’s More To Expect From League Of Legends
Though many fans were sad to see it end after only two seasons in 2024, Arcane was a critically acclaimed show that wrapped up nicely. While another season could have further developed some storylines, the ending left viewers wanting more. Fortunately, the team behind Arcane is already planning future stories based on the world of League of Legends.
The conclusion of Arcane has paved the way for several new shows set in the League of Legends universe. Though these spinoffs probably won’t follow the same characters as Arcane, viewers can anticipate the same level of quality in terms of storytelling, animation, and world-building. Fans of fantasy and the original series can look forward to more content from the world of Arcane soon.
