Hailey Bieber has found beauty in the toughest rhode in her life.
The founder of Rhode shared that after experiencing a mini stroke and heart surgery in 2022, she became much more aware of her health. This experience also inspired her to launch her now-successful skincare line.
Hailey, 29, shared on the February 18th episode of Jake Shane’s Therapuss podcast that a past experience made her much more conscious of her body and more anxious about staying on top of things. She explained that she’s always been very interested in health, which ultimately inspired her to create Rhode, her skincare line. Her dedication to skincare, she said, stems from a broader fascination with medicine.
Hailey Bieber, who shares 18-month-old son Jack Blues with her husband Justin Bieber, discovered some important information about her health recently. Earlier this year, she was hospitalized after experiencing numbness on one side of her face, which was later determined to be a blood clot in the brain – a type of stroke called a Transient Ischemic Attack.
During treatment, doctors found Hailey had a heart defect called a Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO), specifically a “grade five” PFO, which can raise the risk of temporary strokes (TIAs) and other strokes, according to the Cleveland Clinic. She quickly had heart surgery to correct the issue, and was thankful to address both health problems during the same week.
In a YouTube video from April, just a month after experiencing health issues, she shared that she was recovering well and feeling fantastic. She expressed immense relief that doctors had identified and resolved the problem, allowing her to move forward from a frightening time and get back to living her life.
Keeping her word, she quickly turned her attention to her career, launching Rhode—a brand that gained instant popularity with its blush sticks and lip balm cases—two months later. Last May, she sold Rhode to e.l.f. Beauty for $1 million, a move she recently said reinforced her passion for business.
She shared on the Therapuss podcast that the partnership has given her a renewed sense of energy and drive. She’s feeling more motivated and passionate than ever, and excited about the increased opportunities now that e.l.f. is on board.
Outside of her work in the lab, she and her husband, Justin (whom she married in 2018), are enjoying watching their son learn to speak and reach new developmental milestones.
She mentioned that her son constantly says “Basketball.” She explained that even when she woke him up from a nap today, his first word was “Basketball!” She found it hilarious. He’s also recently started saying “Please,” which she thinks is adorable.
Hailey shared her experience as a new mother, saying she’d always dreamed of having children. She admitted that nothing can truly prepare you for parenthood, but she’s finding it incredibly enjoyable.
