Hailey Okula’s Husband Details Grief Journey 5 Months After Her Death

Hailey Okula’shusband is sharing vulnerable insight into an extremely difficult chapter.

Five months following the tragic death of the influencer during childbirth, shared by Matt Okula, and the birth of their son Crew, Matt provided an insight into his progress in coping with his grief.

Matt posted on Instagram on August 27th: “We’re approaching five months without Hailey now.” He shared a video of himself feeding their son through a baby monitor. “I pledged to be open about the highs and lows,” he said, “so here it is. Some nights I find myself crying in the dark, longing for her to be here to hold him, to see him, to share in the life she so diligently worked for. It’s all a bittersweet experience. We deeply miss and adore you, Hailey.

Sadly, Hailey, aged 33, passed away due to a rare heart issue related to amniotic fluid embolism, which can happen during childbirth. This occurred only a few minutes after she gave birth to her son via cesarean section. Previously, the couple had been open about their infertility treatment struggles using IVF for many years.

Matt, 34, expressed in an Instagram post in April, shortly after his wife’s passing, that no words could convey the depth of their desire to become parents. They had battled infertility for years and endured a tough IVF process. However difficult it was, they were ecstatic when they learned they were expecting a child named Crew. Despite her body going through immense hardship, Hailey confronted every obstacle with tremendous courage and love, never faltering.

Hailey didn’t just persist for her own family’s sake, but also lent a helping hand to others in pursuit of their dreams, particularly those entering the nursing profession. Her Instagram account, @rnnewgrads, was a platform where she shared valuable advice and strategies aimed at easing the transition into the nursing field.

In a heartfelt tribute written in April, Matt shared that his late wife had a dream of nurturing new nurses to flourish, while also caring for their beloved dog Crew, creating a life and heritage she held dear. He added that if she were still alive, she would have been an incredible mother. Her zest for life, bravery, and affection will continue in their son, and through every individual whose lives she positively impacted.
