Half-Life 3 Development Reportedly Almost Finished

There’s been a boost in the credibility of whispers about the development of Half-Life 3, following a community’s discovery of hidden details in the recent update of Counter-Strike 2. The rumors hint that work on HLX (Half-Life 3) is ongoing and certain sections might already be finished. As per these murmurs, Valve developers who were working on

On July 31st, in a YouTube video, game data miner Gabe Follower shared details about an important update for Counter-Strike 2. This update provided hints regarding some of Valve’s other projects, as they all share the same fundamental engine.

In his YouTube video, Gabe Follower stated that this recent update revealed a lot of information that was previously unknown. It appears that the development of HLX (Half-Life 3) has reached a point where certain aspects of the project have been completed and are currently being refined.

Gabe Follower cautioned that such advancements might sometimes signal a game’s postponement or termination, yet he remains optimistic about the current progress of the upcoming Half-Life title.

In simpler terms, Gabe Follower stated that when developers complete their projects and are no longer required, they often move to different teams. This rotation can sometimes indicate an upcoming project cancellation, akin to people abandoning a ship about to sink. However, based on the information gathered from Source 2 files, the new Half-Life game appears to be thriving and doesn’t seem to be at risk of being canceled.

Although data from game files suggests considerable advancement in the making of Half-Life 3, it’s important to note that this information doesn’t give us any clue as to when we might hear an official announcement about the game, or what its potential release schedule could be.

I’ve been closely following Valve’s projects for quite some time now, much like you, fellow gaming enthusiast, and I haven’t heard any definitive word yet that the project has been shelved from trusted sources like Gabe Follower or Jason Schrier. So, it’s safe to say that it’s still in development. As for a release date, I’m afraid I don’t have that information just yet. It seems half of my questions revolve around when an announcement might be made.

In April, McVicker felt assured due to confidential intel that Half-Life 3 was nearly playable, suggesting a compelling argument for its upcoming launch.

McVicker stated during the April Q&A livestream that the game is currently as developed as it has ever been. In other words, the game can be played from start to finish. Moreover, they are still refining, perfecting, and possibly stuck in content development or mechanics lock-up stages.

Half Life 3 has become a running joke in the gaming world due to the considerable time elapsed since the release of the last main series installment. Despite occasional hints and continuous speculation, Valve Corporation has yet to make an official announcement about the game and tends to avoid discussing it altogether.

Last year, something shifted for me as a dedicated fan, when Valve personally acknowledged the absence of a sequel in an official documentary commemorating the 20th anniversary of Half-Life 2.

In the documentary, Gabe Newell, one of Valve’s founders, expressed that it might have been possible to deliver the product, and it wouldn’t have been too challenging. However, he admitted his personal struggle: “I got stuck. I couldn’t grasp why working on episode three was making any progress.

It’s likely that if the rumors about the game being finished are correct, we’ll get an official update on its development from Valve soon.
