Halo Studios is developing a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, currently titled Halo: Campaign Evolved. Recent reports suggest they don’t plan to stop there, and may remake the entire first Halo trilogy. A new report from Rebs Gaming supports earlier rumors from October, indicating that Halo 2 and Halo 3 remakes will also focus solely on the main campaign, leaving out the competitive multiplayer modes.
A recent video by Rebs Gaming explains that Microsoft and Halo Studios are choosing to remake older Halo games instead of creating new ones because they’re worried a brand new game might not be well-received by longtime fans.
According to Rebs Gaming, Microsoft and Halo Studios are taking a cautious approach with the future of Halo. Their source says they want to avoid repeating past mistakes – specifically, releasing a new Halo game that disappoints longtime fans. To minimize risk, they’re focusing on remaking the original games, which were already popular and continue to be played, as another failure could be damaging.
Rebs Gaming is revisiting old rumors about potential remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3. These rumors started in 2024 when game designer Dan Gniady hinted at a project involving a key moment from Halo 2: Master Chief destroying a Covenant ship by throwing their own bomb back at them, referencing his statement about “Giving the Covenant back their bomb.”
Okay, so I’m super hyped because they’re rebuilding the original Halo: Combat Evolved for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S! It’s aiming for a 2026 release, and get this – it’ll be the first Halo game ever on a PlayStation! The team at Halo Studios says they’re making it a really respectful remake, updating everything while staying true to the original. They’re building it in Unreal Engine 5, so expect a massive visual overhaul with better graphics and cutscenes. They’re not just changing how it looks though; they’re improving things like how the enemies move and react. Plus, they’re re-recording the soundtrack and getting the original voice actors back to give new performances that fit the updated game. It’s going to be awesome!
The gameplay in Halo: Campaign Evolved will center solely on the campaign, offering both single-player and cooperative experiences. Players will also find a variety of new content, including weapons like the Needle Rifle, Battle Rifle, and Energy Sword – originally introduced in later Halo games. The campaign itself will be expanded with three new missions starring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson, taking place before the events of the first Halo game.
